“As an born and raised Alaskan I can say this is the real deal experience.”
Reviewed August 26, 2012 via mobile

Steve is great, his staff are hard working no nonsense, and do an amazing job providing a real Alaskan experience. No, the place isnt a 5 star hotel whatsoever but thankfully a perfect getaway for most reasonable people.

The food is amazing and the staff are friendly and always ready to make your experience better then you ever imagined possible.

My advice, ride a cruise ship up to Alaska and when you are tired of the corporate b.s. and endless jewelry stores end your trip with the real deal Alaskan experience.

You will be glad you did.

I stayed with Orca Adventure Lodge for 2 weeks in July of 2010. This is not a motel, it is an adventure lodge. The purpose the adventure lodge is precisely that. Steve and his relatives, friends, and hired staff are there , at a reasonable price, to offer you adventures of a small, but diverse part of Alaska. With your stay at the Orca Adventure Lodge, you may taylor your adventure to kayaking, mountain hiking, glacier hiking, flightseening, observing sea otters, sea lions, unique birds, ocean fishing, alpine skiing and much more, all under one roof. The lodge itself offers rooms that are basic, which I would think that would be more than adequate for anyone that has an adventurous spirit. The meals are absolutely delicious, and usually comprised of salmon in some fashion or another. Personally, I rate the meals as the quality of very expensive cuisine. They are served in a bunk-house style, which allows the guest to meet and interact with other guests, who are typically some very interesting people, world adventurers, eco-system researchers, climatic researchers, glacier researchers. The staff is courteous, and interested in you, and accommodating to making your stay the most fulfilling adventure that you desire. I happened to be there with a team of science students from South Dakota. We were there for the very pupose of the adventure, and we received more than we expected. No complaints from these teenagers, at all! By what I can read on these posts, we can leave that to the adults that simply don't understand what the purpose of Orca Adventure Lodge is.

Room Tip: Call them, they will accommodate you.

This lodge was at the start of our Alaskan adventure. It was just perfect. The setting is beautiful and the lodge is homely. We received a very warm greeting from the lady at the front desk - it was her first day. Rooms were spartan but warm. Breakfast was excellent. My only critism is that there needs to be an area to sit & wind down. The lobby is too small & the area at the back of the restaurant is dominated by a huge tv. A nice lounge area with a roaring fire would make this very enjoyable destination perfect.

Room Tip: Ask for a front room with a view

Trip Advisor Review

This place was basic, but wonderful. Everyone was very friendly. We had a suite which was two levels, each floor had a queen bed and one twin so it was perfect for our three adults and two kids. Room had coffee pot but little else. However, they had a dryer we could use and tea and coffee in the lobby in the morning and a fridge in the cafe area that we could use for some milk for the cereal we brought in the morning. My only possible complaint was that the windows in the room didn't close the whole way, Cordova isn't exactly a new city so it didn't seem out of place that the place wasn't in perfect condition but the sense of family of the lodge made up for the worn/well loved room.

We were stranded by the ferry due to bad weather and the Orca was one of the places with rooms available on short notice. It's no wonder!
The front desk "staff" was a lady obviously having a bad day. She didn't talk more than a few words, literally "ran" to show us our room, and when we got there what do we find? A bed, a small bathroom and a desk with a single chair.
I can think of more exciting ways to spend my money and staying at this place wasn't one of them. While we do not expect to be pampered, we do expect a hotel with the reputation to have more inviting accomodations.
We didn't stay, but wnet instead to the Lighthouse, which at least had a TV and for a few bucks less to boot.

You will note from the other reviews this place is different. we stayed early in the season and had a room overlooking the inlet. The rooms are not five star, the meals room is a bit like school camp. having said that the food was fantastic, the staff were great, the location is fabulous right on the inlet, and it was one of the highlights of our five week trip that had some very good accommodation. Kayaking on the inlet on perfectly flat water will stay with me for a long time. there are sea otters in the water, bald eagles everywhere. The trip to Childs Glacier they arranged was great. a great place

Spent 3 nights and had a good time, The place was a cannery built in the 1880's. The place has no TV's or phones in the rooms but you can get WiFi in your room. The rooms are good but nothing special. The dinning room is a bunk house style with very good food. (only a few choices each night)

Room Tip: all room have a view of the water
