An absolute 'must visit' if you're in Rarotonga. A shipping container, converted into a busy cafe with just a few tables outside serving the freshest and tastiest fish sandwiches and salads. Toss up as to whether the tuna or FOB is best - I was delighted with both. On Sundays, you should try and get along to sample the Ikimata - raw fish marinated in coconut and lemon/lime. Delicious but quite rich. Special mention to the staff - the Fobettes - who are just the icing on the cake! Oh yes, it's also pretty much the best value lunch we had in Raro.

On a hot, sunny day it was lovely to sit under an umbrella with a beautiful view over the lagoon. Service was friendly and outgoing. Food was timely. We tried the sandwiches, I had crispy Mahi Mahi with a tangy lime mayo, my husband had hot and spicy tuna with a spicy salsa. Both sandwiches were large, on lovely bread, generous amounts of fresh fish and packed with salad. We devoured and struggled to get through them. I had to pick out fish and eat it to be able to get my mouth around the sandwich. They were delicious and I will definitely make this a regular haunt when we return. Sandwiches were around $12 and salads $18. They also had some delicious looking smoothies. Unfortunately, I didn't remember to take photos until we were half way through our meal.

This is an absolute “must do” when you’re visiting Rarotonga. Situated right on the waterfront of the Muri Lagoon, the kitchen of this little café has been set up in an unused shipping container on a deck with picnic tables and beach umbrellas for outdoor eating. It’s a very popular spot with locals and visitors who come from all over the island to feast on fantastic fish dishes prepared with freshly caught fish of all sorts. I can particularly recommend the crumbed mahimahi sandwiches (the best on the island), locally baked Turkish bread, salad and mayo and fantastic smoothies. There’s a good variety of fish dishes on the menu including Tijuana Tuna with a spicy Cajun sauce, and Ika Mata, a raw fish salad that is a Cook Island specialty. You will want to come here more than once!

Our local host kept suggesting we have a fish sandwich or fish salad at The Mooring. We did, on our second last day. And again, on our last day. The Mooring has links with a local fish charter business. FOB (fresh off boat) tuna, mahimahi, wahoo, and other varieties go straight from the boat to the kitchen, which is a converted container. The "dining room" comprises BBQ tables on the deck, under large umbrellas, gazing out over the lovely Muri lagoon. This is close to heaven! Fish fillets are pan seared by a talented, hard working team who also provide excellent service. And the prices are extraordinarily low. Yes, you can opt for a chicken dish; but why would you when the fish dishes are so divine? And if you are an espresso fan, don't turn up your nose at the plunger coffee; it's great. Note: this is a brunch/lunch spot and is not licensed. It's simply about top quality, affordable, fish meals.
