“Never had a fish sandwich like it!”
Reviewed April 9, 2013

The fish sandwich was the best ever. Nice view from the outside seating. Good selection on the menu board. Great friendly staff. Highly recommended.

“No fresher fish anywhere”
Reviewed April 9, 2013

Attached to the fishing club, the fresh fish sandwiches and ika mata were unbelievable! Wish we had discovered it earlier in the trip. Do try the fresh coconut juice - you get a whole young coconut with a straw inserted - quite refreshing. Not fancy - just picnic tables by the waterside - heaven!

“As fresh as it gets!”
Reviewed April 5, 2013

This relatively recent addition to the cafe/restaurant scene in Raratonga is great.
Easily accessible by road,or by a short walk from Muri village ,the alfresco dining atmosphere is relaxed and friendly.
Views over the Avana inlet towards the sea are superb - although ,at peak times, parked cars can sometimes get in the way a little.
( Incidentally, historically, this is the area from which the Maori canoes set off ,in the 14th century ,to settle New Zealand).
We have eaten at The Mooring on several occasions ,and have always found the quality of the fish to be mouth-wateringly fresh- indeed the " FOB" ( Fresh Off the Boat ) is every bit as good as its title. ( Particularly recommend the " spicy tuna ", and mahimahi). The home-made bread and salads are a great accompaniment.
How the chefs manage to produce such great food from a relatively tiny cooking area ,in a converted shipping container ,is trulely impressive.
As a consequence of this, however, there can sometimes be a significant wait for food if the place is busy.
Would recommend gettintg to the Mooring early, and also,be aware that it is not open in the evenings.

“Fast service, good value, freshest mahimahi!”
Reviewed April 3, 2013

One of the best el fresco diners found on Rarotonga. Their catch is fresh, the service is friendly and efficient, the sandwiches are generous and healthy.
