Be prepared to go to sea with a cowboy - I'm still not sure if there were any life jackets on board, but we just had to put our faith in the captain when we ventured out into the rough sea. We had a disappointing start with Captain Moko delaying the trip for three hours (we were up early and ready for a 6.30am pick up). Just saying, be prepared for anything... on the upside, we caught a couple of tuna while trawling and Captain Moko made up for our interesting day by pulling together a raw fish salad (which was beautiful). He certainly seems to know his stuff. One of the soft drinks on board was so old the rusted bottom fell out when it was selected by one of the other passengers. Might be time to get some fresh soft drinks on board Captain.

When the man says a local experience, that is just what you get. The man is as dry as a weetbix and so good at his job and a lot of fun. Very good experience and would so recommend it.

“Capt Moko knows his stuff”
Reviewed July 4, 2013

We went out as a family but a couple of us got pretty sea sick which was a shame but not before catching a large orange fish that wasn't good eating for us, but we did get given some large Tuna and Kingclip steak afterwards!

Recommend it really only for older kids as it was impossible for our 10 year old to reel in by himself plus Capt Moko is a character who know how to fish but 3 young kids are probably not his ideal crew.

Price was reasonable compared to others we asked, just a shame we had to come back in early to get me onto dry land!

“Excellent value for money”
Reviewed June 23, 2013

Top notch fishing trip. We took our boys who are 8 and 9 and they loved it. Captain Moko is an excellent local fishing guide who was extremely accommodating. I have done a lot of fishing trips throughout the pacific islands and I would rate this the best. If you are looking for value for money then this is it. It was so good we are booked to go again tomorrow.

“Don't forget to duck!”
Reviewed May 4, 2013

Capt. Moko is probably the best charter in Rarotonga, he gets out first thing in the morning, 6am, when the fish are biting, he knows where they are going to be and takes you there. My son, 36yrs old, and I booked a charter with him for the Monday morning, after dragging our sorry butts out of bed on a fine morning we left the dock in his boat, it was pitch black but we trusted the Capt. to get us past the reef, no problems! We arrived at the F.A.D. and the Capt. set me off steering while he set the rods up, every time I deviated from his set course he barked orders to straighten up! As soon as the lures hit the water we had 4 fish on! The Capt. sent me out to assist Jamie to bring them in, he barked orders to "do this, do that hurry up" and so on. We got those fish in and I was again set up to steer while he re set the rods, same deal, 4 rods in the water, 4 fish on! This all went on for an hour and a half and we had landed 20 fish, mix of all types of Tuna. Jamie by this time had lost his sea legs, Capt. reckoned it wasn't rough, but it was pretty bouncy to say the least! So, as we had a heap of fish on board I decided to call the end and asked the skipper to take us back in as Jamie had lost all the meals he had eaten in the past 4 days! We returned to shore and he told us to take as many fish as we wanted, it appears he is about the only charter that allows you to take what you catch, the others keep most of the fish, bit off that! As we were 9 people at home, we took 3 yellowfin tuna and a couple of bonito, that would see us through till we departed for NZ.So, although the Capt. shouts a lot, he does it so that you all get a good feed, it is just his way I would recommend him to anyone as the best charter on the Island, just remember to duck when he barks, and woe betide anyone who doesn't listen to him!
