We had an amazing time at Highland Paradise and can thoroughly recommend it. The dancing was authentic and natural compared to other shows we saw. The show is informative of Rarotonga's history and a great learning experience. The location amongst an old Rarotongan Maori village high in the mountains (over 1200 years old) is stunning. I would recommend also coming back and doing the day tour because actually witnessing the sacrificial stone, and the navigation stone (which navigators used to help them learn the constellations for voyages to Aotearoa) is amazing.

The evening with the meal was a lot of fun and, though the food wasn't the best we had had on the island, the whole experience was right there at the top, and it did give a chance to sample traditional dishes cooked in an umu. Well worth it, and our bus driver and guide George was just BRILLIANT - absolute highlight.

A great way to immerse yourself in Cook Island culture.

This is the second time we have been to the Village and dinner show, the first being 2010, where it was a terrific night.
After booking and confirming (and paying a deposit) we were still left off the list of passengers, not an issue for us (and apparently a frequent occurrence we were told) but the other part of our party (who were first time visitors), were not collected at all. We had to forcefully request the administration to call Edgewater to see if the rest of our party were still waiting in reception and send a bus back down the mountain for them. So, naturally we missed being part of the first part of the night, were late and had to walk the gamut of everyone else who were in a line waiting for us to get there. Uncomfortable.

we were given two bottles of wine by way of an apology, which - yeah was a nice gesture, but not the point. We were called last to the buffet, and again, yes someone has to be last, but there were no plates, no cutlery and half the dishes were empty, or filled with dregs. Had to wait for someone to wash dishes and bring them back. Nice - not.

The performances - compared to our previous visit they had fewer dancers, who performed less numbers. I think six in total.

They have some competition now with the new Ta Vara Nui in Muri and maybe some of the better dancers have gone elsewhere, as the last time the troupe had some powerful warrior types who were wonderful to behold, and gave you a real sense of the power of the Islanders.

Bar service less than satisfactory, everyone lined up and snaked around our table and beyond which is distracting.

This is our third visit to Rarotonga, I would hope this performance can regain its former energy and impact.

We really enjoyed our evening and would highly recommend "Drums of our forefathers" We were collected from our accommodation by bus and driven up into the mountains to a property which was originally part of a tribal gathering place. The restoration of the 800 year old stone Murai (parliment) to the traditional foods cooked on hot stones buried under palm leaves all added to the cultural experience and authenticity. The show was designed to illustrate the Islanders history with dancing accompanied by fantastic drumming again performed on traditional instruments. It was good to see the number of young people involved and encouraged to preserve their ancient culture. We would highly recommend a visit to this cultural experience.

The show here was brilliant. I have seen a few throughout Cook Islands and New Zealand this was by far the best. Would go back again

We were lucky to receive free tickets to this show but if we hadn't we would have no regrets about paying - I think it was $89nz per person and I think good value for money as we were collected from our resort at 5.15pm and didn't get home until 10.15pm and there was a huge meal which was delicious. Having visited Rarotonga 3 times in 3 years it was about time that we learnt something more about the Cook Islands than what we have learnt from just chatting with the locals. It was a perfect mix of information, entertainment and humour in a truely wonderful setting. The enthusiasm of the performers was amazing, as were their talents and the host Danny was such a neat guy - very funny. Not surprising that this is an award winning show. Well done. (Also the bathroom facilities are excellent)
