The food and menu is simply outstanding with taste and value for money. The curry is so impressive and large that we shared one after an attempt to eat one by myself failed. Fresh fish is outstanding.

We went to Silver Sands for their island night although we should have spent the extra money on Te Vara Nui. The night started when the waitress spilt a whole glass of wine on our table. One of the more senior waitresses took her time in coming over to replace the soaked table cloth, napkins etc and didn't even apologise when she finally did. Before we could eat the buffet we sat through a lecture from the restaurant manager or someone. It would have been fine if she was telling us what the dishes were etc, but she proceeded to inform us why people of Polynesian heritage (of which she was not) are overweight and bore us about how they should be eating more of their traditional food which has better nutritional value. It went on for way too long. When we eventually ate the food, some of it was ok, but we couldn't work out how some things were Polynesian. The dancers were great and was by far the best part of the night. Dessert was sloppy and uninteresting. The drinks were overpriced and we weren't impressed with the selection.

A fairly good range of food on offer, and is lovely with live music playing most nights. Sitting outside with feet in the sand was lovely, as well as the indoor or around the pool dining. Unfortunately we weren't there for a Wednesday - Island night, but was told it was great. The service is great and the view is awesome at Muri Beach!

I think the new name for this restaurant is the Silver Sands and with the name change they have created a pure Polynesian menu focus with dishes from Fiji, Tahiti, Tonga, Cook Islands etc.

The location is fabulous as it overlooks one of the islands in the Muri Lagoon. Neither my partner or i are alcoholics but we ended up going there every day for cocktails in happy hour (4pm - 6pm). At NZ$10 a pop they were excellent and the choice was extensive. After 2 hours of cocktails we would often fall into the restaurant for dinner. We had some great food with the Pork Ribs, Bouillabaise and Tuna with Paw-Paw the stand out options. Although eating 4 racks (i.e. huge portions) of Pork Ribs with 2 gallons of cocktails inside me was a difficult task, it was well worth it. The island night on Wednesday was a great experience and you also get to sample the majority of the dishes that they have on their a la carte menu. Only downside is that the service can be a bit hit and miss.
