We kept hearing about Trader Jack's and on walking in were disappointed that the only tables available were inside, rather than on the deck. However, minutes after our first drink arriving, we were invited to a table that had become vacant on the balcony. This is a thoughtful thing to do and we noticed over the next couple of hours that the staff constantly were moving people this way - and they didn't lose the meals either!

Like pretty much any restaurant anywhere in the world with a view, it was not cheap but we felt we got value for our money and enjoyed soaking up the ambience of people enjoying their meals. The husband stayed for another drink while I took 10 minutes to wander around the town and then, with tummies full, we set off to explore a bit more of the island.

Would recommend.

Very disappointed. The food was awful and way overpriced, we received flavourless, soggy food and cold fries. Tried to speak to the staff about it but our comments were brushed off by the unfriendly waitress. 6 of us were also sat at a 4 person table, despite the restaurant only being half full with plenty of other tables available. Terrible experience overall, would not recommend.

It was our first night on Rarotonga. We had been getting to know village of Avarua, and we did not have our own transport yet, so we just wanted somewhere "easy" to have an early dinner and catch the circle bus home to our accommodation. We chanced upon Trader Jacks on the edge of town, having heard the name from travel readings.
We chose an outside table close to the water, part of the casual dining area rather than the more formal restaurant, and ordered a pizza and a bowl of calamari, along with some refreshing cool drinks.
During our time there, we enjoyed seeing the dragon boat teams practising right in front of us.
The pizza came first and was delicious, and the sun set; but the calamari took so long that we wondered if it was going to come. When it did arrive, it was pretty good - but not exceptional. By this time, the clock was nearly on the hour, so we caught the next bus rather than wait another hour.
So, the view was great, the pizza was excellent, the dragon boats were fun to watch, and we enjoyed ourselves.

We had to wait a while for a table which was absolutely fine as we hadn't booked and just arrived out of the blue - cruising along on our scooters - it looked a nice place for dinner. Killing time we ordered cocktails which in my opinion were watered down - worst cocktails I had on the island. However the meal was delicious and best of all was the mouth watering Key Lime Pie - outstanding!

We came to Trader Jacks for dinner as a group of 30, and quite enjoyed the experience. Despite the early difficulty getting drinks, the rest of the time flowed smoothly, and the staff were very friendly and attentive. The food was quite delicious - wow, the pizza was chock-full of ingredients and tasted absolutely wonderful. I'd easily go back just for another pizza! We all enjoyed our meals (which were a wide variety of foods, all reasonably priced) and the venue was well decorated and pleasant.
