Thanks Travis, Lori and Clay for another great week of fishing. Despite the worst fishing conditions on the Kenia River, I have ever seen due to multiple glacier damn breaks the team was still able to put us on monster rainbows and dollies. There is no substitute for experience when it comes to fishing the Kenia River and the Fish'em crew has that in abundance. The guides are experienced Alaskan fishermen and women who have been fishing the Kenia long before they became guides. I can't say enough about them.
Travis - is a great guide with the patience of a saint when it comes to new fisherman, and I am pretty sure can teach anyone to catch fish. His passion is monster rainbows, and his knowledge of the trout bite is second to none. More than once he has taught me new techniques that I thought would never work only to have some giant fish on my line a few moments later.
Lori - the brains of the outfit is awesome at working with you to setup your trip and getting you the right dates for the fish you want to fish. She is also a guide and if you are looking for a guide with an abundance of exuberance and excitement Lori is you girl. If you want the whole river to know you caught a big fish Lori is the one to make that happen. I have had some amazing trips with Lori and highly recommend her.
Clay - I got my first opportunity to fish with Clay this fall, and I have to say I was highly impressed with his knowledge and ability to put us fish. I pitted my Kenia experience against his in a contest of bead selection and lost badly. He is a blast to fish with and you will not be bored he keeps things lively and is not afraid to try new things if the norm is not working.
As an Alaskan who regular fishes the Kenai River I highly recommend Fish'em and its crew of guides. You will not find a better experience on the river.
I can’t speak highly enough of Travis, Lori, and Fish Em! We spent two days on the Kenai with Travis this week, and he made our Alaska trip unforgettable. Easy sockeye limits and tons of silvers, dollys, and rainbows. 5 stars!!!
I debated for three days whether to post how I really felt after our fishing trip and experience with Fish Em LLC, sought the input of multiple people and felt I should share how I really feel and felt after our recent fishing trip with Fish Em LLC. First, we didn't get notified when to be where, didn't get options of afternoon or morning (we prefer afternoon but got put on an early Am) and told what to bring until 7pm the night before our early AM trip. We had a 2am wake up time and didn't have our snacks or cooler packed or anything because we thought it would be an afternoon trip like all of our other trips. (In the future please give guests the option or ask then we'll in advance and please tell them what to pack/bring/etc much more in advance.) We were told to report to the ramp 45 mins from Sterling at 4am. We get there at 3:45am and our guide overslept, he did apologize and he did show up about 4:15. We drive down with him to the ramp, get dressed and get in the boat. It's a good 15 min ride down the river to our first spot. We get there and my 7 year old's hands are ice cold, his gloves aren't working and are freezing. I tell the guide to give us a few minutes to get warm packs in his gloves (which the guide gave us and we thanked him) Not 3 minutes later another guide calls our guide and asks him if we caught any fish yet. He proceeds on speaker phone to answer him snidely that we haven't even started because we are trying to warm this kid's hands. I'm sorry, if he had been on time we would already be fishing. Secondly, we wanted an afternoon trip, not an early morning. Three, we are the paying customer, if we want to take 5 mins we will, and four, you don't talk about kids like that, period, I don't care who you are. Then he puts us in the river and shows us what to do, then goes back to the boat for at least 20 mins leaving us there. He comes back, notices im left handed and says he will be right back with a lefty rod setup. Then he is gone another 20 mins. I mean that's 40 mins he could have been helping us, working with us, hell helping us catch fish because it was slow. Yes we lost some while he was gone because we didn't know how to properly land them. After being there for about two hours we go across the river and fish where it's super rocky. We get out and start fishing and my son hangs up almost every cast and he gets frustrated with him. Once again he is seven, his first time out and you took us to a very rocky bottom that is prone to that. You have to understand these things. The last thing that irritated me is that with 35 mins left in the trip he started announcing, "35 mins left in the trip!" Then, "30 mins left in the trip!" Every five minutes, yes, I get it, I understand it and don't need a reminder every five minutes. Listen I understand people have bad days, rough days, it happens, he did throw another filet or two on our stack and I appreciate that. It's why I added another star to my review but you need to know and cater to your customers, don't treat them like a transaction. Don't get frustrated with kids. If you don't want kids on your boat that's fine, tell Lori next time. We booked this a month out and they knew a 7 year old was coming. He was a good tour guide on the way down to the ramp telling us about different landmarks and yes, I tipped him $100 on top of the cost of the trip. I just think other people need to know before they choose captains. Actually I wish they would let us choose the captains we fish with and whether morning or afternoon trips, every other guide service on the Kenai Peninsula let us choose. I'll give them another shot next year and update my review then.
This was our first experience salmon fishing in Alaska. Travis was recommended to us by the VRBO owner we were renting from.
From the first contact, Travis and his wife were very receptive and helpful. They were flexible and willing to work with our schedule and really did their best to make it a memorable and personal experience.
There were 2 other "guides" on the boat with us, and they were all amazing. They patiently taught us how to fish for salmon and reel them in. It was unfortunately, a slow day fishing, but we were able to bring 1 back. But it was still a wonderful experience. The guides did their best and even moved us around other areas of the river to try to get more fish to bite, so we really appreciated their effort.
We also love to support military and local businesses! You can't go wrong fishing with Travis!
My dad flew up from Texas for a week and I wanted to get him on some fish while he was here in Alaska.
After doing some research I landed on Fish Em LLC out of sterling/coopers landing. We decided on a full day float/drift trip for trout on the Kenai. After a short conversation over the phone with the owners we had a date and time set.
The days leading up to the trip we were contacted by them to ensure we had everything ready that we needed and to give us the final details on time and location to meet with our guide Clay.
Once we arrived and met up with Clay we could tell this guy knows fish. He was just as excited to get out and fish as we were. He had all the gear ready to go and even a loaner set of waders and boots for my dad. While rowing us to the spots to fish Clay was very entertaining and informative. Once he had us where he wanted to fish it was on, csst after cast we pulled in TROPHY sized Rainbows. Almost every single fish we caught was 20 inches or bigger and even some that where in the 27-30 inch range. Not only did he get us on fish he kept us on fish spot after spot. It was very obvious to myself and my dad that Clay lives for this, he knew the river inside and out and hardly ever passed another boat without knowing the guides name and saying hello.
I couldn't imagine a better experience then the one provided by Fish Em LLC and will book again for sure.
Guarantee the best fishing guides ever. Travis and Lori are so accommodating and kind. It's clear they are doing what they love and love doing what they do. We went to the Kenai for the salmon run and Travis took us out to the secret spots. When no one else was catching fish - WE WERE because he understood the migration and the flow of the fish and the tides. I thought fishing was as easy as tossing a hook in the water - it can be - but if you're serious about catching a fish he can show you some techniques to really maximize your catch!
In our group of 12 people, we had everything from 5 to 71 years old and experts to novice fishermen... EVERYONE was happy and came away from that experience thrilled; our trip was saved because of Travis and Lori.
I will be taking my daughter back for ice fishing in March. This was NEVER on my radar before, I'm more of a spa and nice dinner girl, but they made it so fun!
