Upper Kenai River Inn
Reviewed March 23, 2013

James & Peggy have a great location, the breakfasts are amazing and they share their love of the Kenai river with all who visit. We have stayed here many times, as a couple, with our kids and with friends. Can't miss stay!

This Upper Kenai River Inn has stunning views of the Kenai River from your room. The rooms are nicely appointed and roomy. The river water is a deep aquamarine color due to its glacial origins, and it is truly beautiful. Peggy's wonderful breakfast is always delicious, with many homemade ingredients. James is a raconteur and a font of knowledge of Alaskan wildlife. If you intend to visit Seward and Homer, this is a great location. While there are only a couple of restaurants close to the Inn, they are excellent. There are also some excellents restaurants in Soldotna, which is only a 45 minute drive.

The Upper Kenai River Inn is the Perfect Place to mix relaxation, hiking, sight seeing, fishing and great Breakfasts for the Perfect Alaska Vacation. James and Peggy are just the best Hosts you could ever find and will give you your fill of wonderful food and specific information about all your options for enjoying all that Alaska offers.

Day trips for fishing, Marine wildlife and Glacier boat sight seeing, enjoying watching the fishing boats come in with their huge catches of halibut and salmon, and a visit to the Marine Wildlife Museum in Seward is a must. A float trip down the Kenai River for fishing and seeing bears and eagles is a real adventure also.

If you get a chance, don't miss a stay at the Upper Kenai River Inn with Peggy and James.

We stayed here this past fall and it was a lovely place to stay. The hosts were fantastic and got us hooked up with an awesome fishing trip with a local guide (John Pearson, Kenai River Float n Fish - highly recommend). It was very clean, comfortable, and nicely appointed. Right on the river with a private deck area to enjoy the Kenai River from. We will definitely stay there again the next time we come to Alaska.

My partner and I stayed two nights at James and Peggy's lovely home on the Kenai River. Peggy's breakfasts were first rate gourmet ... and she has a cookbook to back up her skills! James was very informative and helpful with fishing information, how to and where to go! He actually volunteered to meet up and fish with us one evening! Commenting on the negative reviews ... why would you want tv when there is so much beauty and serenity surrounding you? I had no probem writing a check or paying cash instead of using my credit card! We would highly recommend this B&B to anyone that wants to relax and enjoy the beautiful views from your private balcony!

The Givens allow no credit cards, no TV, no internet. The room was nice and furnishings appeared clean, but attitude of hosts was less than gracious.
They have internet, but allow no hookup through a simple ethernet, which would be free to them. They have TV, but allow none for their guests, except watching a video. They insist upon payment ahead by check or cash only.

We stayed for 3 nights with Peggy and James Givens and felt welcomed at "home" at their B&B. We had a late arrival and James gave us perfect directions and left a key in an envelop "hidden" for us! We enjoyed Peggy's morning breakfasts with plenty of great food!! The Alaskan stories and fellowship were great. The room was comfortable and the venue quiet and river front with porches and decks. Local info was helpful!
