It's been years since my wife and I had eaten there, but we decided to try it again. We actually celebrated our 30th anniversary there a couple of weeks ago. New ownership (as of 5 years ago) has brought about some nice changes. While the menu did not include steaks, what we did order was very good. I had the chicken fried steak, and the gravy was excellent. Many places use a water based gravy, which I'm not fond of, but Gwin's uses a dairy based gravy. Very tasty! My wife had the cod fish and chips, and was very pleased. The atmosphere is still the same as it was years ago, still the same old slanted floor, but that's part of what makes it Gwin's. The service was excellent. They still have a very nice bar selection of beer, wine, and spirits. The dessert menu was very enticing, but after finishing the main course, neither of us had room for dessert. They will also be open on a limited basis through the winter, so we are looking forward to stopping in on our trips to and from Anchorage during the "off season".
