“One of the best places to stay!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 2, 2008

We absolutely loved our stay at Inano Beach! We stayed for 5 days during the last week of July, which was a low season and we were the only guests (this might be one of the reasons we loved it so much!)

Bungalows:
There is one beachfront bungalow and six more bungalows in the garden-like setting. We stayed at the beachfront one and one could see the lagoon from the bed at sunrise.
Bungalows have a queen-sized bed, a small kitchen (with a fridge, microwave, stove, kettle), toilet and shower, and a deck.
Bungalows are serviced daily and are VERY clean and mosquito-proof.

Price:
We contacted the property directly and paid 160 NZD per night for a beachfront bungalow.

Location:
In our opinion, this is the best location on the island. There are a few places to eat within a 5 min walk (Koru cafe is great for breakfast/lunch and BoatShed is very good for dinner). There is no shops around, so you will need to go to the town (10 min drive on a scooter ). The hosts sell treated water and beer.
The beach is quite deep and good for swimming. Ootu beach (the best beach on the island) is just 300 m away.

It was very quiet during our stay and we enjoyed that!
Inano beach is much more private location than Samade or Ranginui (which are just 5 min walk) and also in a much more pleasant garden setting.
We also think it is a much better location than the west side (which looks more like Rarotonga!).

Entertainment:

The hosts rent kayak (10 NZD per day) which is twice as cheap compared to Samade. You can also rent scooter/bicycle nearby.
Veia (the hostess) recommended Puffy's for an island night (35 NZD per buffet and dancing show) and we enjoyed it very much (there were a lot of locals there, so it must be very good!).
Veia also recommended Bishop's for a lagoon cruise and we went twice (this is definitely a must do as the best snorkelling and swimming places in the lagoon are on the small islands there).

Location:
As you can see on the map-picture Inano-Beach is located on a peninsula on the western part of Aitutaki. It takes probably 15min into "town" with a scooter but you are right on the most beautiful spot of the main island. The southern tip of the peninsula has the only really sandy beaches on the island with no rocks or coral in the water. So you can go for a swim barefooted without worrying where to put your feet next.
As you can see on the pictures Inano-Beach has bright white sand and the water right in front of the beach is deep enough to go for a swim. Especially at low tide the lagoon is usually only knee deep in this area.
And in case you are worried because you are living right at the end of the airport´s runway: There are no big jets taking of or landing on Aitutaki. Air Ratotonga`s propeller aircraft are taking of maybe twice a day, but they are more of a background hum. Otherwise you don´t see or hear anything from the close-by runway.

Accommodation:
The bungalows are generally one big room with a queen size bed, a couch (convertible to another double bed), a dining table and a kitchenette inside. Only the bathroom is seperate.
I wouldn't call the bungalows "basic" as in a previous review. Maybe compared to a 5 star hotel but I think they are a pretty good standard. The kitchen is equipped with a stove, microwave, kettle and fridge and the deck in front of every bungalow has a table and chairs for outdoor sessions. A major plus is that the bungalows are well insect screend. I didn´t have any problems with mosquito bites.
The bungalows are cleaned daily and I think I got fresh towls everyday, too.

Service:
Like a former reviewer already said, there isn´t really a bar or restaurant at Inano-Beach, although you can buy some beer and soft drinks there. But Samade-Beach has a nice bar and restaurant right at the beach and it´s only a 3min walk away. You can also take the ferry to the Aitutaki Lagoon Resort if you like it really expensive...
Inano-Beach is more like a family run place. Veia the landlady tries to help everybody where she can and I almost felt like adopted after I had a little scooter accident. I couldn´t walk much and in fact spent a whole week just in the bungalow. And she brought me food on several occasions and even drove me to the hospital twice. Without charging me anything extra of course...
Another little service they have for guests are the kayaks you can hire there on a daily basis and at a considerably lower price than at Samade-Beach e.g. You can go to the three little uninhabited islands in the south with them if you are fit enough.

Price:
The price given here seems a little high to me, but I must admit that I was there during low season and stayed for almost 2 weeks. Nevertheless it might be worth trying to contact them directly and not go through a travel agency. They might give you a discount. Just look up www.inanobeach.com or write an email to inano@aitutaki.net.ck.

Our experience at Inano Beach Bungalows was the "Bom".
As per the Aitutakian people our host and hostess were typical of the Aitutakian people always smiling and happy. Island Time is just that, if you want a slow no hustle no bustle time then Aitutaki is the place to be. You are surrounded by an ubundance of coconut trees, - your host Moeau will even show you how to husk the coconut for you to drink or if you want eat. Yes there is 3 stages we were told about the coconut - when its green (nu) you can drink it and eat the flesh, when it is ripe and drops from the tree - make sure your not standing beneath - the flesh is hard - the locals scape this part and make coconut cream, yum then the last stage is when it has a new shoot ready to start a new coconut tree you can eat the inside as well. The liquid inside the coconut has turned to a soft foam like look which is lovely to eat.
The units are self contained which were very large, spacious, and for the price very affordable.

The bungalows are per the website, quite big, clean, quiet but basic. There is only one beach front bungalow, 2 have some views to the lagoon and the other ones are back in the garden.
The bar was closed when we stayed there and there wasn't much going on as it was low season and it gave a little bit a feeling of run-down ( actually don't go there if you want to party). You can walk to closeby samade or boat shed to go to restaurants but there is no stores around. The closest one is maybe 2 kms away so you will have to consider renting a scooter (available next door with ranguinis, book ahead if you go in high season july-sep) .
The beach is ok but not for small children as it is deep, the water was very hot but was kind of white, don't know why. There are some kayaks for renting for 10$ .
At the end I think for the price it is a good value. If you go to aitutaki for more than few days, I would recommend to split your stay between this side of the island and the west coast.
