I did a lot of research and came to the conclusion that all the boat captains were awesome people and we would have liked any of them. So the deciding factor became the comfort of the boat and I wanted one that was easy to get in and out of and not too crowded. The Yellow Boat was the perfect size, very comfortable and holds up to 16 people max though we only had 8 people. The snorkeling was amazing, the lunch fantastic (and sausages supplied for non-fish eaters) but the highlight for me was the island where the Red-tailed Tropic Birds (Tavake) nest.

The Aitutaki Lagoon may well be one of the most beatiful places on earth, and to make it so much better, there are hardly any people there to share it with. If you go to Aitutaki, you have to take a Lagoon cruise and there are lots of choices depending on your style and activity level. Just don't go to this island without getting out on the lagoon... you can't miss it!

Absolutely stunning lagoon. The colour you see in the photos is exactly what you see in real life. The water for snorkelling is not super clear (at least it wasn't when we went out) and the fish and coral probably aren't the most colourful in the world... but this place is a real gem.
