5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 12, 2013

This is truly an amazing experience that should be on everyones Bucket list. We were steps from a beautiful lagoon, the sunsets amazing. The people very friendly and attentive. Activities from the resort fantastic and the helpful staff in the activity hutt always on hand to have a laugh and help you decide what to do. The Spa therapist was lovely and her treatment great, but felt the spa needed a bit of a make over. The Out door shower is a great surprise and something a little different.
A must is a sunset private dinner with your own private waiter, very romantic.
we will be back :)

Room Tip: Premium Beach Front Rooms were perfect for the sunset and easy access to the lagoon.

We stayed 3 fabulous nights in this beautiful resort; it was a spectacular experience. The entire resort has been recently rebuilt and updated. The greeting on our arrival by an Aitutaki man blowing a shell horn us on the beach was unique. Our orientation of the resort was warm and professional while we were seated with the other two couples who arrived with us. All staff were very pleasant throughout our stay.

When we arrived in our Premium beachfront bungalow the bags had already been delivered and the bungalow was beautifully decorated with hibiscus and frangipani. Our bungalow on the beach had the most fabulous uninterrupted view of the lagoon. The outdoor shower as part of our bungalow was an interesting aspect and appeared to be feature for all accommodation. The position of the Premium Beachfront bungalows is excellent; the outlook is stunning and breathtakingly beautiful.

After a delightful lunch at the Flying boat beach bar and grill we had the most superb afternoon swimming in the lagoon right out front of our accommodation. The highlight of our stay in Aitutaki was the lagoon cruise for the day. We were lucky with the weather that day and visited a couple of smaller islands snorkelling in the lagoon followed by a barbeque lunch on One Foot Island. It was absolutely magic swimming and snorkelling a considerable distance out in the lagoon with the beautiful fish and coral while not worried about sharks. Our tropical breakfast at the resort was pretty good and included a good range of cereal and fruit. We enjoyed our meals at the Flying Boat restaurant. The menu is a little limited but then the island is very remote and this has to be taken into account.

While the setting is absolutely superb there are a few things that need to be tweaked to make it perfect! When paying AUD $1,756.21 for 3 nights (AUD $585.301 per night) it would be nice if the following were avoided:
The price of AUD $92.30 return transfer from the airport to the resort for a drive of less than 5 mins seems odd and excessive. The resort is literally at the end of the airstrip. Arrivals to all resorts are greeted with a flower lei and let’s face it a coconut drink is no outlay: coconuts are in abundance everywhere. Several budget resorts provide the flower lei and transport without charge. The same vehicle runs into town which is a 20 mins trip for NZ $ 12.50 (AUD $10.44) return. Anyone wishing to cross over to the resort in the ferry does this for free.
It’s strange that people who are non-guests are allowed to help themselves to the resort guests beach lounges and hammocks outside the Premium beach bungalows for long periods of time. We actually heard a non-resort holiday maker at a nearby café advising others to go over to our resort and spend the day on our beach all for nothing and that’s exactly what they did shortly after!
There was a problem supplying hand towels and face washers on the second day despite 3 times speaking to Reception which resulted in being told they did not have any dry ones. After two efforts on the third day we did receive them. It was strange that there was a shortage of linen as the resort was low on occupancy on these days.
The lack of a working light globe outside our bungalow for our entire stay resulted in me falling on my way to dinner on the last night. Fortunately I only sustained a sprained wrist but I did find it unsettling. I sat though dinner with my left arm supported on a cushion which my husband obtained from our bungalow and packed in ice which the restaurant manager kindly provided. The globe was replaced the next morning prior to our departure. A bit too late!

These minor operational hitches should really be easy for the resort to address and then it really would be a perfect paradise.

Room Tip: Premium beachfront are in a perfect position on the lagoon. All rooms have a great outlook but these...

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. I am very happy that you took time to write this as you have raised some very good points that we can improve on.

I am glad to hear that you had enjoyed our recently upgraded property and found your accommodation beautiful with the best views of the Aitutaki lagoon. The secluded outdoor showers have indeed proved a popular addition to our bungalows; all our bungalows now feature the tropical inspired outdoor showers.

Exploring the Aitutaki lagoon with the many lagoon cruise operators is certainly a must do event. Snorkelling and swimming in the turquoise lagoon is a memory that is treasured by many of our valued guests. I am happy that you took the time to experience this.

I have certainly taken onboard your comments in regards to transportation costs and will look at this area closely.

Thank you for your feedback on non-guests using the resort facilities. Our resort facilities are only available to our in house guests.

I do apologise for the inconvenience that you experienced with the supply of facecloths and handtowels, we have implemented a checking system to ensure that this kind of issue do not reoccur.

We hope you have made a full recovery after your little fall and I can assure you that we have reviewed our daily maintenance check list in checking light bulbs are carried out regularly.

Thank you again for your constructive feedback as it provides us with the opportunity to improve our service and ensure that everyone has a wonderful experience.

Beautiful Aitutaki is a must visit if you go to the Cook Islands. We spent 3 nights at this idylically located resort at a beachfront bungalow - heavenly escape from the everyday. Our welcome was a short fun boat ride across the lagoon to be greeted at the beach by a traditionally dressed Aitutakian man announcing our arrival via the blowing of a cone shell. The lagoon is pristine; and a snorkeling boat trip not too far out revealed a world of beautiful coral and fish to compete with our Great Barrier Reef. The lagoon front bar and restaurant provided an acceptable menu for both food and beverage. Buffet breakfast back in the main building was basic but ok. And a trip into town to go to the church where we were made extremely welcome and the service was great with all the traditional singing encapsulated the warmth and humility of these lovely island people.

This resort has a beautiful location, the accomodation was brilliant - overlooking the beach. Beautiful beaches. We got a complimentary spa voucher which was a really nice gesture as we were on our honeymoon.
The restaurants food was nothing to rave about but the people, location and huts made up for it.

Room Tip: We decided to have the basic beach hut and not go deluxe, the only difference is more room inside...

My husband and I stayed here for the majority of our honeymoon back in December 2012. We stayed here for 7 nights in an overwater bungalow. Number 34. We love love love love loved it here! Everyone should go here. It is exactly like the photos if not better. The colours of the water, the people, the weather. Amazing!!!
Our room was perfect. Outdoor shower, amazing view over the lagoon, another outside shower on the deck, and the steps into the water. Amazing! We couldn't have survived without the aircon I'm the room at night but during the day we just jumped off the deck into the lagoon for a swim.
Our bungalow was the only one with the steps on the front of the deck, which means we could run and jump into the water. We loved it! Fish all around the deck which we fed with left over bread from breakfast.
Food wise: we had a voucher for breakfast and dinner. Breakfast you could choose from the cereal, yoghurt and toast ect. And also have a hot breakfast. We tended to have some fruit and then a hot breakfast too. We got room service for lunch a few times, our room was that amazing we didn't want to leave! Room service menu is good and delivery quick. Dinner was in one of the 2 restaurants each night. Because we don't eat seafood it made the selection limited, but we still enjoyed every meal. Particularly the chefs special wraps. Yum!
We booked in for a degustation dinner on the beach one night. We had perfect weather and conditions for it and t was great. Romantic and special.

Word truly cannot describe how amazing this place is. You just have to go and see yourself.

We had 'done' Rarotonga a few times and thought we should do the cook islands a service and visit its jewel - Aitutaki. We arrived later in the afternoon and found our way to the check in desk at the airport and given a coconut and lei (I am personally not a fan of this as it really makes you look like a tourist!) The coconut was refreshing though in the heat.

The shuttle was literally a 5min drive so the charge for the shuttle was a little perplexing :( We then took a boat over to the ootu and arrived in reception. We were all shoveled together and told where and what was around us - to me a little impersonal for the price that you are paying, and lets be honest most of the hotel compendiums explain all that is needed.

We arrived at our lagoon facing accommodation - wow! The rooms were amazing! I think you have to look at how much work is needed cost wise and even transport wise to get them built to this spec, you have to give credit! The room was comfortable, beds were nice and the location was breathtaking! You just cant imagine the colours that come from the water!

Overall it was a fantastic stay with a great location its just unfortunate im not one for the over the top, slightly 'American' style of resort treatment! (No offense)

Where do I start? Resort is pricey but stunning. I thought Aitutaki is prettier than Rarotonga but also a lot quieter. This is one of the best location in South Pacific I had been to. Staff were friendly and helpful. I will surely come back and enjoy this paradise on Earth.
