“Magical Paradise!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 10, 2011

Stayed from 28th September - 01 October 2011
My partner Ben and I stayed 3 nights to celebrate our family's wedding at the amazing Aitutaki Lagoon Resort and Spa. We do not understand how there could be bad comments about such an incredible place! Yes the accommodation is not the 'four season's' but why would you want to travel to one of the best locations on this planet to spend your time in a fancy hotel room? We originally booked and paid for a 'Garden Bungalow' but we were surprised to be upgraded for free on arrival to the new 'Premium Beachfront Bungalow' with an outdoor shower. The bungalow was very spacious and clean and the outdoor shower was divine. We had an amazing view of the lagoon from our balcony and comfy King size bed. We arrived at night time so waking up to our first morning in Aitutaki to a brilliant Aqua colored lagoon was simply breath taking!
Although a little overpriced, we were very happy with the quality of the food, cocktails and service from both of the restaurants located at the resort. The staff were always so friendly and helpful. We did not have the time to explore other islands and use the complimentary snorkel and canoeing equipment as we were busy preparing and celebrating a wedding, but the time we did have to relax and enjoy Aitutaki was so amazing! Very peaceful and quiet!
Being our first trip over seas, the Aitutaki Lagoon Resort and Spa have made it hard for us to want to stay anywhere else. Trying to explain to our friends and family about how amazing Aitutaki is, well its impossible! We highly recommend the location and resort to anyone who is wishing to get away from their busy everyday life to a very quiet slice of paradise. It truly is a magical place. We will be back very soon!

It was a pleasure having you and Ben and the families stay with us and celebrate Natasha and Grant’s wedding. We are happy to hear that you truly enjoyed the celebration.

We are glad you got to enjoy our new Premium Beachfront Bungalow! Brand new and located directly facing the champagne sands of Sunset Beach with magnificent views over Aitutaki Lagoon – the best views in Aitutaki! We believe that you also had time to enjoy the ultimate in relaxation, hammocks strung under the palms right beside the serene lagoon.

I am happy that you chose the Aitutaki Lagoon Resort & Spa for your first trip overseas and have thoroughly enjoyed our quiet slice of paradise. We look forward to welcoming you back soon.

This resort is placed on a private tiny Motu or island. So the peace and the silence are guaranteed all the time. You can choose overwater bungalows (near ocean gate and this means they are windy), beachfront bungalows on the white sand beach and garden ones on the bay. The resort offers two restaurants with typical local foods, one bar and the spa. There is a little boat that crosses the small river to allow the guests to visit Aitutaki all the time. So you can choose to have lunch and dinner outside the resort and visit the fantastic island. The water is crystalline and transparent and you can swim all over the Motu or take a kayak and paddle to the little Motu just in front of the resort.

I am delighted to read that you enjoyed the amazing scenery and romantic ambience of our private island resort.

We have a range of bungalow categories starting with the lead-in beachfront bungalow right through to the Royal Honeymoon Pool Villa. It is possible to upgrade one’s preferred bungalow on site.

Indeed, our resort is situated perfectly surrounded not only by beautiful blue lagoons, but also a traditional Marine Reserve offering an amazing snorkeling experience for our guests.

Thank you for taking the time to pass on your comments. We hope to be able to welcome you back soon.

We spent 3 nights here and had a great stay although it did not exceed our expectations. We were greeted at the airport with flowers and drinking coconuts. The resort is situated on it's own little island. Our "garden bungalow" was actually almost beachfront, there are no bungalows not situated with lagoon views. The lagoons are seperated so privacy was quite good. Snorkelling is better on Rarotonga unless you go out on a cruise which is definitely worth it, it was the highlight of our stay. The king size bed was very comfortable, the room was airconditioned, the outdoor stone shower was huge, and the room was serviced daily. There is no kitchen only a kettle and a small fridge. The small shop is overpriced and the "library" consists of about 10 very old and damaged books. We were also disappointed with the Bounty Restaurant, meals and service were terrible. Would not eat here again. The Flying Boat Beach Bar and Grill is better. However, it is worth the quick complimentary trip across the lagoon for a meal at the Boat Shed bar and grill. The complimentary breakfast at the resort is ok but nothing to write home about. The beach hut supplies complimentary snorkeling gear and kayaks etc, there are beach lounges and hammocks conveniently located across the island, and the resort offers activities each day. Staff could have been friendlier and more professional. We met a number of other honeymooning couples and they had similar experiences to us, did not enjoy the food, and felt the snorkeling cruises were the highlight. Overall, if you enjoy resort style accommodation it is worth a stay, definitely the best spot on Aitutaki, the views are breath taking.

We recently honeymooned for 5 nights at Aitutaki Lagoon Resort & Spa and will never forget our magical time together. (September 2011)

The resort's location is the first and last thing you think of every minute of each day. The sunsets are magnificent, the weather was perfect and the grounds themselves suited our relaxed attitude perfectly. We wanted a place that wasn't over-run with children, wasn't sterile like a major chain hotel and not full of hundreds of guests competing for deck chairs. We ticked all our boxes happily with this resort! It's charm and small size were the best features. We enjoyed taking walks around the island and stopping take in the simple things like the hermit crabs walking across the sand, the coconuts dropping from the trees and the fish swimming in plain view in the lagoon. So relaxing to slow down and watch nature doing its thing.

We stayed in a Beachfront bungalow facing Full Moon channel which despite looking a little outdated and not quite what we were expecting for the price, did it's job magnificently by being quiet, comfortable and providing everything we needed. We didn't look at other rooms, but a future return visit may see us trying a Deluxe beachfront bungalow at least if it a little newer as rumoured. The Bathroom was perhaps the only downside, being fairly basic compared to what we're used to in normal 4 to 5 star hotels/resorts. I'm not sure how old the bungalows are, but they do their job without really spoiling you. The air conditioning was fantastic and made the heat a little more bearable on some of the warmer days, not that we weren't enjoying every minute! All up, we enjoyed our accomodation and the balconies were full on almost every single bungalow each afternoon, a testament to the amazing view and relaxed atmosphere.

We had an absolutely magnificent time. James in the activities hut was always singing and playing his ukulele, friendly and always happy to help. Alex in the restaurant department deserves a special mention for being so helpful with our candlelit dinner on the point and helping us with tables throughout our stay. He added to our experience and made it even more personal and enjoyable! All staff were helpful including Joanne and the rest of the team. They really helped us feel relaxed and carefree for our entire stay.

We enjoyed Management Drinks, Crab Racing, Spa and Sauna, 1 hr Massages, Beach activities, Ukulele lessons, Town Visit and a number of other activities including Island nights. All of them were fantastic and we're glad we did so much to experience what the resort has to offer.

We took a lagoon cruise with Bishops who picked us up directly from the beach at 10am and took us out for a magnficent day. We can't recommend them highly enough, they were just fantastic.

The food was great! We fell in love with the Flying Boat Bar & Grill and tried to eat there as much as possible at lunch for the jaw-dropping view. The lunch menu was varied enough that we weren' sick of it after 5 days and the dinner menus were complemented by Seafood night, Reef n Beef night and other specials. We enjoyed every meal and really can't fault the food at all. We had included the full-board package which was a GREAT way of not having to worry about our meals at all and often we struggled to eat 2 course lunch and 2 course dinner after our daily coooked breakfasts.

Drinks and cocktails weren't too badly price. The beers were cheaper than what you'd pay in Australia at any city bar which was great. For those planning on drinking a lot of wine or spirits, it's even easier to bring a couple of bottles from town visits or even through your duty free. We're not big drinkers, so simply enjoyed the odd beer/wine and cocktail each meal and didn't have any problems with pricing.

We'll never forget the charm of this magical place and relaxed and happy attitue that we felt from all the staff during our stay. We really hope that this remains forever and this resort doesn't end up like some of the larger global chains that just feel too impersonal. The small size and friendly staff were just what we were looking for and even the fact that the rooms aren't brand new still complements the charm and atmosphere of this magical location.

I've attached a few of my favourite photos, we already have friends lining up to see them and proclaiming that they too want to visit!

Thank you.
Matthew Wright

We stayed here for 2 nights for our honeymoon in the beach bungalow. Location is secluded, but the resort itself does not make use of the locations potential. The lagoon is breathtakingly beautiful and is great for swimming, do not bother snorkelling though as the water is unclear. The bungalow itself are a little outdated and don't match their price tag that comes along with it. Food at the beach bar was great and service overall was good. Overall the place is comfortable, nice and beautiful but we expected more from accommodation.

Room Tip: Do not choose beach bungalow if this stay is for a honeymoon.

The first thing one seems obliged to accept is that Aitutaki is over-priced. Once that bitter pill is swallowed just enjoy how utterly beautiful it is. We stayed in a one room beachfront bungalow which was perfectly adequate but not $600 per night standard. The staff at the resort were friendly and always ready to joke around with guests.
The breakfasts, which were included were great value and the other meals all very good quality.

My biggest gripe, which actually made me rather cross, was that the resort seemed to practice the custom of watering down the cocktails - of this I have no proof other than my extensive experience of cocktail consumption. It is very disappointing to pay $16+ per drink for fruit juice and syrup with a splash of alcohol. Also only one staff member tending the bar for most of "Happy Hour" resulting in one obtaining only one cheap drink, was rather frustrating.

The additional airport transfer charges of $55 each way for a five minute (maximum) journey is pure robbery I'm afraid to say, and enough of an insult to put me off returning to this resort despite it's many redeeming features.

Room Tip: Definitely opt for beachfront.

We spent 6 nights at this resort. The rooms were spacious and well presented. The hotel staff were very helpful and friendly, always smiling. The lagoon is nothing short of magical, we found ourselves just staring at it all the time.
we could not fault a single thing about the resort, the food was amazing, the rooms were clean and well appointed, the staff made you feel comfortable all the time.
