“Mud Crab-Twice in Three Days”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 20, 2014

Well i had three dinners on Aitutaki-i picked Tupuna for two of them. Its a small converted home a few miles from the center of town and from any of the hotels. Yes i of course had the mud crab. The claws were as big as my hand, they told me these were "average". There was nothing average about the meal, the curry sauce it was prepared in or the sweetness of the crab. I also had the seafood chowder one night, very good as well.

Make a reservation and tell them if you want a crab when you book the table so they have one for you. Its a presentation when it comes out, and an awesome feeling when you get your first bite of that sweet sweet crab!

Enjoy

“A restuarant you must visit!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 16, 2014

The drive is a little into the island, away from the main resorts, however when I say a little, it is about 5 minutes and the drive is lovely, you get to see the town and local houses, the school and the local bakery, many churches, even some pigs, piglets, goats and chickens on the way. The service was great and the food was lovely - you must definitely get the mud crab - all the locals told us to get it, even though it's pricey, its sharable between 2 and definitely worth it!!

“Where's the Love ?”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 7, 2014

March visit to Aitutaki included a dinner with local friends at Café Tupuna. They had been closed for a spell since it was the slow season but had been open for about a week. the service was fine but food was just OK. Used to be a really good food spot, one of the best on the island. Maybe they were still on holiday. Four of us felt like reminiscing about the really good food they once served. Perhaps they will improve after getting back in the groove.

“Best on Aitutaki”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 28, 2014 via mobile

We were told that Tupuna was a "must visit" while on Aitutaki.
We had had a large Umu lunch at a Marae earlier in the day so opted to share three entrees. Seafood Chowder, Raw Fish Salad and the (legendary) stuffed crab.
All three dishes were incredible. This isn't just a great Aitutaki restaurant, this is a great restaurant.
Service, price, atmosphere and location are all top notch.
Highly recommend.
