“Avoid unless you like dated placed with nothing to do!”
Reviewed January 9, 2012

The worst mistake we did was choosing to stay at Te Tiare for our last leg of the honeymoon. Compared to the other places we stayed in Moorea and Bora Bora, this was absolutely awful.

The rooms were beyond dated and felt cheap. The bathroom desperately needed a makeover (the bath looked awful!!) too. The whole experience was made worse by the fact that the pool was 'out of order' and management just shrugged their shoulders as if that was acceptable without offering a compensation.

The island itself was dull with the local running the pearl farm even stating "there's not much to do on Huahine so most people come to the pearl farm". We certainly agreed.

Romantic island this is not, avoid if that's what you have in mind. And if one honeymoon couple reads this and plans to spend their time somewhere else, that will make this worthwhile.

If you have some doubt to go to Huahine and stay at TE TIARE, do not hesitate, GO! It is an amazing resort in Huahine. Its manager is so kindly and his co-workers as well. Meals and breakfast are so nice. Rooms and all area of the hotel are so clean. Congratulations for TE TIARE board! Good value! Keep the same behavior with guest!

Myself and my partner decided on this resort after considerable consideration. We choose it in the main because the overwater bungalows promised deep water. (as opposed to many resorts in Tahiti which have very shallow water so you cannot dive into the sea from your deck) This resort delivered in spades.
The beautiful clear water was perfect for diving; swiming or just floating around in. It was also excellent in that if you are not too confident in the water you can climb down your ladder and swim /snokel behind the bungalows which very quickly puts you in shallow water (but still perfect for snorkelling.) The clarity of the water is unbelievable, so even if you don't like snokelling, you can sit on your deck and watch the fish. I spent many hours when not in the water, watching a friendly octopus on the ocean floor ( at least 10ft below ) doing its thing on the sea bed, going from rock to rock.
We went with another couple who were in the next door bungalow and it was very easy (and quicker ) to just swim across to each other's bungalow - with the obligatory gift of wine / snacks etc in one hand and just using one arm to paddle yourself across . This allowed us our privacy but also the enjoyment of having our friends near by.
The bungalow itself was fantastic. When reviewing the rooms on trip advisor i was initially thinking that the rooms looked a little dated. However the pictures don't do the bungalows justice. The size and layout is very well thought out and very comfortable. The toileries could do with being a better quality.
The deck in particular was brilliant, having plently of space, catering for sun, shade and privacy at any time of the day.
Overall the food was very good and occasionally excellent . Unfortunately there was a lack of consistency to the standard of food. I had the exact same steak meal twice - the first time it was as good as it gets, but the next time, definately below par. A shame, but maybe i was just unlucky.
On our trip to town to get provisions, the captain of our boat spotted a large pod of dolphins and improvised the trip to ensure all the passengers got great views. Incredibly on the way back from town ( 2hrs later ) we got another dolphin adverture - and again the captain of the boat accomodated us in hanging around while the dolphins played around the boat.
My suggestion is to definately make at least one trip to town as you can get all your provisions there, and who knows what you may encounter in the water on the trip.
The resort itself is simply beautiful - the grounds are immaculate and the accomodation excellent.
The staff and also the locals were very helpful and friendly. This was demonstrated in particular when we needed to call a doctor. At first light i contacted reception who explained that the nearest doctors were in town ( a 20 min boat trip away ). They contacted the doctor for me, who then called me to find out exactly what the problem was. We are very fortunate that he spoke English, as that made it a lot easier for me. The hotel then sent their boat for him. He had to arrange cover in his practice, so he could come out to the resort, I don't know the problems this caused him, but i was very grateful. I had expected the cost of this exercise to be really expensive, but was very surprised at the reasonableness of the cost, considering the time and effort required from him and the hotel. The Hotel boat then took the doctor back to town and at the same time picked up our prescription from the chemist and brought it back to us.
A Big thank you from us to all of those involved.
My only suggestion for improvement would be putting a room number tag on the umbrellas. We took our umbrella to dinner as it was raining, but when we went to go back to our bungalow some misterable person had taken ours!
Overall a lovely resort and i would recommend it.

We stayed at Te Tiare for the first four days of our 25th anniversary trip. I had researched all of the islands and every time I read a review about Huahine, and Te Tiare, I knew it was the place that we would start our trip. I wanted to stay in a beautiful resort but still have the opportunity to explore an island that was filled with history, beautiful scenery, and wonderfully friendly people, and not filled with high rise hotels, thousands of people, etc. Huahine and Te Tiare fulfilled all of those wishes! We stayed on one of the Premium Beach Bungalows, because we would be staying at an OTW bungalow on Ta'haa later on. The room was very nice and spacious. It had everything we could possible want and the service was impecible. The restaurant had a wonderful breakfast buffet, but I will say that the dinner fare was just average. We usually took the boat shuttle to the Fare, the main village, every day. There, we rented a car at the Eurocar rental and spent the day just touring on our own. We did take a tour with Eco Island Tours the next day and Paul, the man who runs the tour, gave us a wealth of information about the island. He was able to explain everything that we had wondered about when we toured on our own. We had so much fun exploring the island! I was told Huahine is still "old" South Polynesia, and it really is. The lagoon where the resort is located is jaw-droppingly beautiful. I had purchased an underwater camera before we left and took over 200 pictures of the fish and coral just in this lagoon. There is a very nice swimming pool at the resort, but we spent only an hour or so in it the whole time we were there. There were just too many things to see in the lagoon! There were days that we were snorkeling by 9:00 in the morning! I love this island! Our next place was at La Ta'haa Private Island Resort and Spa. This place was over the top luxury and beautiful, also, but if you want to experience French Polynesia for what it is then Huahine is your island.

My husband and I visited Moorea, Huahine, and Bora Bora in May 2009. All factors considered, Moorea was our favorite island out of the three. But landscape and lagoon alone, Huahine topped the list. Jetskiing in the lagoon near Huahine was breathtaking. People were so friendly and laid-back. I imagine this was what Moorea and Bora Bora were like years and years ago.

Our travel agent told us that Te Tiare Beach Resort was the best resort on the island. After some research, I'd agree with her. We stayed in the deep overwater bungalow. The bungalow was very spacious, but the interior looked tired and needed update - definitely not as nice as the Hilton Moorea or the Hilton Bora Bora Nui that we stayed at. In addition, there wasn't as much fish to see when we snorkeled from our OWB. For snorkeling, Hilton Moorea had the best location.

I really hope the resort will be renovated soon - that'll enable me to revisit the beautiful island of Huahine again!

Room Tip: If you are going to pay for OWB, get the deep water OWB. The beach bungalows are not worth the money

Very quiet, food was great, people were super friendly, French touch on pastries are just fabulous. We stayed on Papeete, Huahine, Bora Bora and Tahaa. All are fabulous if you want scenery to die for and very few people. I believe that Hawaii gets more people in one week than the islands of Tahiti get in a year. My wife and I like quiet vacations, perfect weather, great local people, food from sandwiches to 5 star meals and clear ocean to dive or snorkel in. Te Tiare is very quiet and I love the island. Went out to a Pearl Farm and was able to buy pearls right out of the ocean almost. Bora Bora is fabulous but more crowded, Papeete is like any major city and has more problems. If you want to see 10,000 tourists go to Hawaii. Perfect honeymoon spot, spend a little time on Huahine Nui and Huahine Iti (big and little Huahine.

Room Tip: We have stayed in Over The Water Bungalows and on direct Beachfront. We much prefer the beachfront...

We stayed at Te Tiare for 4 nights in a deep overwater bungalow. It was fabulous! You could see fish swimming in the water by our deck and the snorkeling right off the deck was great. The view and sunsets were unreal. The bungalow was nice and clean with a huge bathroom. The only downside was that it was really windy which made it hard to sleep without earplugs. It was windy in Moorea too, but you hear it a lot more when you are overwater. The grounds of the resort were beautiful too and the staff were very friendly.

You have to take a boat to the resort, which makes it very secluded and romantic. The downside to that is you have to rely on the boat shuttle to take you back to Fare Wharf. The shuttle was not at the most convenient times. In fact, there were only a couple of restaurants in Fare and they did not open until 6:00 pm for dinner. The shuttle back from Fare was at 6:30 or 9:30. I would suggest that they add a 7:00 or 7:30 pm shuttle. We did not want to stay in Fare until 9:30 pm. There is just not much there. So, we ate at the resort for dinner every night. The food was really great, at least. We got to know all of the staff and they were very nice too.

Huahine was gorgeous! We went on an archeological tour with Eco Tours that we really enjoyed. Our guide, Paul, was very nice and knowledgeable. He is American so his English is great too. One day we rented bikes and rode them to the Pearl Farm which was a lot of fun. People sell fruit right in front of their houses. We bought a papaya for cheap that was delicious! It is so quiet on Huahine; we just loved it but I would recommend only staying 3 days because there aren't a lot of food choices.
