“Great place if you want more of a casual local feel”
Reviewed November 2, 2013

People were helpful. Enjoyed the honor bar for drinks and bottled water. Feeding the sharks was cool. Sunsets were amazing. Breakfast and dinner were served on our personal patio as an option. This works because you are pretty isolated at night. It was quiet.
Tv was in French. DVD players and dvd's would be a nice option. Great restaurant on papaibo beach. Dock was great. It was a good budget choice considering the cost of French Polynesia is over the top expensive.

Great location by the water, the owners are very friendly, available for any information about activities to do on the islands. Kayak and bikes are available for free. The studio in the garden was clean, and only 30 m from the beach. The continental breakfast is good, fresh fruits bread and croissant with home made jams. Although we had to check out in the morning, we could leave our luggage at the reception and enjoy the day on a small island's lagoon, with snorkelling gear lent by the owners. I definitely recommend this place.

Room Tip: Studio 6 (garden view) is a good value for money

Loved it. We had beach bungalow #5 which was perfect for two people. The place was clean, the bed was comfortable, the kitchen well furnished. Everything we could have wanted, especially after having stayed at two "budget" accommodations (by choice, that is) earlier.

The location is certainly stunning, with the lagoon in front of you and Moorea's striking mountains behind. The entire staff was extraordinarily helpful and all spoke perfect English. The dock that goes out onto the water was picture-perfect and great for snorkeling so that you didn't have to walk out to the deeper water over all the coral beds. There were plenty of outdoor chaise longues to lie in. The whole atmosphere was relaxing. There was also shark-feeding every evening at sunset, which was really cool. You could get into the water with the sharks if you were so inclined, which we weren't! The snorkeling was really good just off the end of the dock. We also took a half-day guided hike with a very entertaining local guide up one of the nearby mountains, which provided stunning views and a fair bit of exercise. In short, Linareva is beautiful, well appointed, and totally relaxing.

I only have a couple of minor negative comments. Firstly, the dining options are very limited. We opted for the on-site dinner our first night, just for the sake of convenience. The food was plentiful and good, but not good enough to warrant the price. There wasn't a single vegetable in the entire meal, unless you count the three shreds of carrot garnishing the raw tuna appetizer. So, the rest of our stay we ate dinner elsewhere, which meant either having pizza at the only other establishment within walking distance, or having the concierge arrange transportation for us to one of several restaurants about 10 kilometres away. A couple of those restaurants provide free transport, but some charge upwards of 1000 XPF or more. If you have your own rental car or a scooter, none of this is an issue, but we didn't.

As for breakfast, I can't comment, because we supplied our own with groceries from the supermarket, mainly because we didn't want to pay the equivalent of $20 per person for a continental breakfast. The coffee maker in the bungalow made very good coffee, and there was a perfectly good sized fridge to hold all our food. I don't know what other people do for lunch, since it's not provided. We had shopped for food in Papeete before moving on to Moorea, but there is a very well stocked grocery store about a 20-minute walk from Linareva.

The other thing that didn't thrill me was that the "beach" was tiny, no more than 25 metres long. If you went beyond that at either end, you were on someone else's private property. So, everyone else who was staying at Linareva while we were there were very much "there" along with us. I never felt as though the two of us were completely alone. I've stayed at other places in French Polynesia where I felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. I guess what I'm trying to say is, because of the relatively small property, it's almost impossible to avoid the other guests.

But those are minor quibbles. If you want to stay in a really delightful bungalow in a beautiful setting, with wonderful staff, and don't mind a bit of a shlep for dinner, then I strongly recommend you stay at Linareva.

From the minute we arrived we were made to feel welcomed,to this charming authentically decorated, private resort located right on the ocean! Edmee, was extremely helpful and a true pleasure every minute of our stay ,helping us with any question and detail Her pretty smile and pleasant attitude added to the super atmosphere of the resort! Edmee, was comparable to a concierge at any 5 star hotel( with a very warm, personality) We had stayed at the big luxury resorts(great) and on The Paul Gauguin ship(great)so it was so nice to have the privacy ,personal attention, free knacks, free bicycles, free snorkeling, free sharks ( harmless Nurse Sharks)that come at sunset when Roland summons them,by tapping the dock!( for real)free barbecues, close to the Magasins( markets) , and the best pizza ,ever, like Italy,at Daniels( the best priced meal in all the islands) a 3 minute walk! The hotel is so private ,movie stars could stay and not be bothered! There are also,a few really sweet cats ,if you want company they will be there for you,if not ,they remain unobtrusive ! Did I mention the relaxing hammock, the beautiful flowers, fruit trees, and Lilly pond! Peace and quiet,a beautiful tropical breeze, sounds of the ocean crashing on the reef ,birds singing, the beautiful view of the water, trees, and flowers, and the sweet smell of the flowers, coupled with the very friendly people lend itself to a truly tropical, romantic, zen, experience! Loved the total relaxation, great people ,and the best value for your money in all of the Society Islands!

We stayed at Linareva for a week and have only good things to say: the setting is magical, and the resort has a pier, allowing you to enter the water where it is deep without traipsing over corals before you can enjoy the snorkeling/swimming. The fares are well appointed and clean, you have a choice of having breakfast and/or dinner there. The meals are good, and breakfast will tide you over, it is so plentiful.
Linareva has the very best kayaks to use for free: they are stable and leak-proof, and serve well if you -like us- want to explore a bit further and go snorkeling along the outer reef. They are even easy to get into after a long snorkel! We have never had such carefree fun on kayaks on any other of our pacific island stays! The same goes for their excellent bikes: comfortable saddles and stable frames: we planned to cycle a bit and returned after an easy 40km, feeling no worse for wear.
Any outings you can imagine can be arranged by Roland and Edmée, they are knowledgeable and helpful.
Edmée warned us to watch for our belongings left outside our bungalow over night, even though the place is very well guarded, and I chose to ignore her warning. Now my reef shoes are 'somewhere' in Moorea. So if you stay there, listen to her!!!

Room Tip: If possible, go for a beachfront fare.

My husband and I travelled to Moorea after a 10 day Moorings sailing trip -- We wanted to plant our feet for 5 extra nights and this was a perfect quiet spot to do that. We loved the ambiance of the place -- wonderful gardens, beach, dock.. picturesque beyond words... We stayed in the Beach Bungalow #5 --- It was so adorable and romantic! We loved everything about this place --- we used the free wifi, kayaks, and bikes (Daniels' Pizza is incredible as welll as the little store to stock up on goodies a little bike ride away).. we even rented a scooter for a day through the owners --- was amazing!!! We ordered the full breakfast for 2 or 3 of the days -- I loved the fruit and yogurt the best.. We made some wonderful friends there so you get a great mix of people -- mostly Germans, Eastern Europeans, Canadians.. during our stay... The owners are very nice people and really keep this place in tender loving care daily and it shows.. Absolutely did not regret it.. I would say this place has a charm of Bed and Breakfast/ Homey feel.. Feel soooooo relaxed after staying there.. If I ever get back to Moorea, I would most definitely repeat a stay in a heart beat!!!

Room Tip: All the rooms/ bungalows are different and quaint so whatever suits your needs/budget..

Had an amazing stay here in 2011. Though I haven't been back since, the quiet location and beautiful scenery combined to make it an unforgettable and very personal experience. The owners were great and made sure to provide us with bikes, kayaks, and tons of advice at no charge. I can't wait to return and will definitely be staying again!
