“Go with Patrick!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 16, 2013

We did a half day 4WD pickup truck tour of the interior of Tahiti. You really need to get out of the city to get a feel for the island. Patrick was an absolute wealth of information about plants and animals and history and culture. We would stop at a scenic place and he would start telling us about things. Other tour groups would stop, take a few photos and leave and we were still there talking. Patrick did not rush us ever and he really made the island come alive. We saw lots of waterfalls (it had been rainy) and swam in a mountain stream. we saw beautiful vistas of the mountains. This tour was a great deal. sometimes it takes a while for him to return emails, but if I lived in paradise, I wouldn't spend too much time on the computer either! Do listen when he says to bring water, sunscreen, bug spray and wear a swimsuit. Thank you Patrick for a great day.

“Road dust yes but scenic too.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 31, 2012

History reflects that Paul Gauguin painted while in Tahiti. Our 4 wheel drive tour saw sights Gauguin may not have seen. Geology and nature have conspired to change the landscape since the artist lived on the island. Patrick, our tour guide, seemed to know much about the flora and fauna as we rolled along the streets and back roads on our way up the mountain trails. Patrick attempted to teach us the history, plant and animal life of Polynesia. He would begin by asking does anyone know XXXX? Few if any ever ventured to answer. The failure to venture a guess or half-hearted answer resulted in more attempts to lead us into the correct response. This routine became boring after a fact and some of the tour group appeared to grow weary of the game. Before I go much further this should be noted by all who read this review. Four wheel drive vehicles are not comfortable to ride in or on. All but one of the tour group, are seated in the open pickup bed and those riders will be exposed to road dust. Typically, elevated levels of humidity / moisture keeps the road dust down but expect to breathe it in and have it stick to your clothing and skin. There is a mid-tour swim included which requires a rope ladder, some of our tour group passed on this exercise. A lunch of premade sandwiches (remember- this is a 4wd tour) was served but this interlude should not be confused with tailgate parties. To his credit, Patrick did stop for the tourist to take photographs and indeed it was a scenic drive! Participants of this activity should be prepared for dust and grime along the route to beautiful scenery. Do bring your camera but prepared to clean it.

“The Singing Tour Guide”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 6, 2012

We spent a full day visiting Pompano Valley with Patrick, the singing tour guide. His 4WD tour was punctuated with snatches of songs and melodies, pretty much on key.

Patrick is a wiz on the geographic formation and plant life of the Islands. Tour members are expected to participate identifying these by filling in the blanks.

While holding on the vehicle with both hands, we discovered the valley’s bright orange tulip trees, bridges and maraes. It was interesting to see that many of these ancient places of worship were still visited for spiritual practice as evidenced by shell offerings, wooden carvings and banners. Unfortunately, archeology was one subject which Patrick was not well versed. (Pardon the pun.)

Bring your bathing suit for the pool at the bottom of the waterfalls and plenty of Rid insect spray.
