I would consider this a poor hotel at a very expensive price. The sink and radiator were coming off the wall, beds, pillows, mattress, blankets and room needed updating. Try to remind myself where I am. Felt dirty.
Poor customer service and not a friendly staff. Talked to other travelers and they recommended King Eidler.

Room Tip: get a room that faces the ocean. Not much to look at as their was a tractor trailer and sandbags blo...

Stayed at the Top of the World Hotel for two nights in June while on a business trip. There are limited choices of accommodation in Barrow so I wasn't sure what I was going to get. For the north, I would say this hotel is acceptable. I have traveled extensively throughout Alaska for 30 years and also throughout the Northwest Territories. In the North, it can be difficult to find decent accommodations. The Top of the World was clean and the room was comfortable. The hotel is old and dated and has a feeling of being worn out. That said, the staff were friendly and I had a comfortable bed and the location in town is good with the Arctic Ocean just across the street. The room had a small frig which was a nice touch.

While there, the weather was warm (60F) so you had to sleep with the windows open. Some of our group said they had kids playing outside there room all night so sleeping was difficult. My room was on the backside and I had no problems.

There is a Restaurant next door (Pepe's), however, a couple of our group went there for breakfast and the waiter was drunk. They said it was a horrible experience. Be warned.

Some of our group stayed at the King Eider which is probably the newest and nicest place in town. However, all things considered (it is Barrow), I would stay here again.

We stayed two nights here and were impressed by the comfort and cleanliness of our room. Outside temperatures stayed in the twenty below range at night but the rooms were warm. There was no closet in our room but coat hooks on the door so we did not unpack. The front desk and staff were friendly and helpful. There is a small gift shop and coffee in the lobby.

There are 3 hotels in Barrow, AK. Monica Felland, the manager of Top of the World, was the only hotel to respond to me AND they are the only hotel with a view of the Arctic Ocean right outside my hotel window! If you are going to Barrow, you must splurge and get the Arctic Ocean view. The hotel was clean, warm and had all the necessities we needed... Did I mention we were there Feb 27/ 28th- in the dead of winter? Tons of snow and beautiful. Monica suggested a tour/ photography guide, Mike Shults, who was THE MOST OUTSTANDING GUIDE WE HAVE EVER HAD. Stay at Top of the World Hotel and ask them about Mike. You will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: Get the Arctic Ocean view

This is a historic old place and could be cleaner. Not as much care taken to keep it up as expected with the price, but then the options are limited. If you want clean, go to King Eider. If you want a good location and rich history with a little grunge, Top of the World. Wear your socks at all times.

This is THE place to stay if you visit Barrow. The Tundra Tour was operated almost from the hotel lobby. Our bus driver was so friendly, he asked whether we wanted to try whale meat. We said yes, but heard it was only distributed among locals. 10 minutes later, we found our bus parked in front of alocal's house, and a very pleasant eskimo lady stepped onto the bus with a full plate of thin sliced whale meat offering to everyone to try, for free. Our bus driver enlisted his cousin to share their meat with us!

This is in Barron after all, so do not expect the normal luxury you are used to in the "lower 48" states, it is clean, and warm!

The restaurant next door Pepe's is the real mexican restaurent featured in the movie "Big Miracle", really nice cozy place for breakfast

You can across the street from the hotel and stand right by the Arctic Ocean, wastching the iceberg floating HORIZONTALLY in front of you. It will take you a while to realize the water does not come TOWARD you inside the arctic circle. How cool is that...

Spent 5 days in Barrow...loved it. Hotel is situated in a central position, you can walk anywhere, staff were professionally but friendly and went out of their way to make you welcomed and helped with getting taxis to act as guides. Rooms very comfortable and clean , even has a hair dryer.View of ocean on your door step. They let you know all the happenings in town, arts and crafts, whale catching, bingo, etc. Not a shoppers paradise but Susan Hope makes the most amazing Eskimo jackets, local sell their clothing on a rail in AC's, got the best fur shop in town, Justina in reception ,being a local Eskimo is happy to share all this info and more . Just ask.
The hotel will lock your lugage away if your flight is at night, saving you an extra day of expenses, so you can tour around not having to worry about lugging it with you, or you are free to drink their coffee in lobby , watch TV while you wait for time to past. It's a damp town , so no bars, food is eaten at any of the 5 eating places in town, prices average. Eskimo's are very special people, will help you and the bank is next door to hotel with an ATM.
