Casa Laurin B&B

Reviewed January 3, 2013

We stayed at Casa Laurin for 3 nights at the end of our 15 day vacation. We were a family of 4 (2 adults, with a 10 & 2 year old).

About the owner -

Firstly about Ginette, the owner, we cannot say enough how extremely helpful she was to us. If it were not for Ginette and her dedication to assisting her guests, our trip wouldn't have gone as smoothly as it did.

We rented a car through the managers of a house we rented for the first 7 days of our visit. We rented through TriColor car rentals. Unfortunately, when we arrived at the rental agency, they would not accept our credit card b/c the numbers were printed vertically on the card. When we offered another card, this too was not acceptable because the numbers were not raised. So we took a cab to the house rental.

Later, we found out that TriColor, though we did not rent a car from them, HAD successfully put a $1500 hold on our credit card. We managed to get around w/o a car for the first few days, but we were going to need a car for the rest of the trip. So we called Ginette to see if she could assist.

And assist she did. She found an agency who would accept our card, with a fair price for a rental and they delivered it to the house we rented. She spent so much time calling around to different places and then calling us back with information and more questions. She also called Tricolor to ensure that the hold would be dropped ASAP.

We were so amazed at all the effort she put in on our behalf. We were only staying with her a fraction of our entire trip and she had done so much for us. We were so grateful because in the end, we did get a car and were able to continue our trip around CR as planned.

The house -

The B&B is currently located in a really cute block of Escazu. You can walk around the neighborhood quite easily - most of the streets have side walks. Around the corner, there is a Walmart, which many people might find convenient. Also, there are numerous restaurants nearby. Finally, within less than a minute, you can be on the highway. We got to the airport within 15-20 minutes. From her house, we also visited the Irazu volcano - that drive took about 50 minutes. Cartago is about 45 minutes to an hour away. Just a great location.

The B&B itself is wonderfully set up. We reserved the "early riser" room, which is nearer to the garage. I believe it is called early riser because it is also nearer to the kitchen and as a B&B, she does make wonderful breakfasts and is up herself quite early. We were not awaken by her activity however.

I believe most of the rooms have a private (or nearly private) outdoor patio. We were able to store food in a guest's refrigerator. She offered her kitchen to us in case we needed to re-heat any food or do any cooking.

The breakfasts she made were quite filling and delicious. We started off with coffee and fruit. Plenty was given for our family. She asks ahead of time what kinds of food you might like and so daily, we were treated to an assortment of wonderful meals and fresh juice.

Again, we were traveling with children and so it was important for us to be in a place where we could stretch out a little. There is plenty of common space. There are games for the children, puzzles etc. My children felt completely comfortable and at home walking around, choosing a spot and sitting to read or play.

We watch our children fairly closely and that is important since she does have a pool. Because it is a home with corners and twists, parents should be prepared to be up and about with small children so that they can monitor them.

Ginette is most always around the house working on something - helping a client who will arrive soon, making plans for meals etc. She was always approachable and always ready with ideas or suggestions for places to eat or visit.

While we were made to feel like we were at a relative's home, Ginette does run her business as a business and so expect full customer service as no other. Towels are changed daily, rooms are neatened and refreshed, receipts are given etc.

So make no mistakes, you are in a home that is a business run with customer service that could only be perfected as Ginette has over the years she has been doing this.

We HIGHLY recommend a stay at Casa Laurin. As we are back in the States confronted with snow, all we can do is reminisce on our time in Costa Rica. A great journey and a great stay at Casa Laurin to wrap up our adventure.

I stayed at Casa Laurin at a neighbor's suggestion as I was doing a battery of test at near by Cima Hospital. Everything was great. Ginny bent over backward to accommodate me as she was very booked. In the end she managed to keep me in her B&B without a move (after she found me an alternative) and I stayed in the same beautiful room for my stay. Busy place as she has made quite a great reputation for her business. I was able to walk back from the hospital (my choice). Ginny just did everything to make it easy. The place is lovely as well. I was only able to eat one breakfast because of tests and she made my breakfast (and another) group heading out earlier than normal and very delicious and extra work for her and her great employees. Everything about this experience was so positive and I was nervous as I was traveling alone and was not looking forward to my tests. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Room Tip: I had the lovely Princess room all to myself!

We were referred to Casa Laurin by friends who had spent a lot of time there during a difficult medical period. When it was time to select a place to stay in Escazu, there was no hesitation to stay here. Ginette is incredibly helpful, efficient, friendly, welcoming and it really does feel like you are visiting home for a while. Love it here! The one time we stayed, it was my husband, my son, and myself, we stayed in the California King Superior room. The bathroom was SO big, it felt like a palace, the closet was big enough we could have put our 4 year old in there as a 2nd bedroom and the room itself was just lovely, large and comfortable.
There is a refrigerator you can use in case you want to keep a cold water or your own food, although breakfast was fit for a king, with a great selection of cooked delights, and home made breakfast juice too.
Recommended for business, couples, family, solo, and friends... great place! Great location.

Room Tip: Ginette is very clear in her descriptions of the rooms, and there is one room suitable more for earl...

Ginette helped with trip planning before and during our stay making sure everything went smoothly. She assisted with calling cabs, ordering food and planning activities. The custom cooked breakfast that's included was wonderful.

The rooms are comfortable and there's nothing more that we could have required. The accommodations and service are excellent.

The hospitality made us feel like we were staying with good friends. We felt safe, secure and comfortable. You are well cared for when you stay at Casa Laurin. You can even use the kitchen to make your other meals.

We thoroughly enjoyed this quaint home away from home. Coupled with the deliious custom breakfasts and wonderful conversation were beautiful flowers and birds on the inside courtyard. Ginette is a graious host and makes you look foreward to coming "home" each time you return. We were extremely satisfied by this little gem - in a quiet neighborhood of San Jose.

We plan to always stay here when visiting this area of Costa Rica.

Room Tip: All rooms are unique and quiet.

We have stayed with Ginette three times. It felt like home from the first time. It is the perfect place to stay when arriving in the country before going to other parts, and is likewise super convenient to stay there prior to returning home. Ginette has a wealth of information on all aspects of the country. She was especially helpful in putting us in touch with the right people for medical and dental tourism, arranged our car rental for us, and suggested really good places to eat. She was also very accommodating in our requests for special diets. We will definitely stay there again. Ginette is a true pro in the hospitality business.

Room Tip: A good range of choices from the big suite (HUGE bathroom!) to smaller rooms with shared bath, but y...
