We took a chance & didn't book. We arrived at 12.30 & got a table. By 1pm it was full. Really relaxed atmosphere& very friendly staff who spoke fantastic English. Food didn't look amazing but tasted it. Well worth a visit!

You will love this place. Tucked away on a quiet street around the corner from Tin Jo hides La Esquina.
It's rather unassuming from the outside. You could drive right past it without noticing. Inside business is booming and since it's small, it's always full. You need to make reservations well in advance to make sure you get seated at a decent hour. The restaurant is beautifully adorned with memorabilia from Argentine pop culture, from Tango to fútbol. The bar is especially neat.
The food was really tasty. A friend who is a chef recommended the place to me as his favorite places to eat steak in San Jose. The beef is really incredible. I was impressed by everything I tried.
The service was friendly and helpful though it wasn't the fastest. My girlfriend and I weren't sure which bottle of wine to buy and the waitress bought us several glasses each with different types of wine so that we could taste each one before buying the bottle. A nice detail...

Great food. A bit expensive but the steaks are worth it. Melt in your mouth! Great atmosphere and desserts.

Went for dinner on a Sunday evening and did not regret having made a reservation. The place was bustling, all tables busy and busily being "refilled" as soon as vacated. I have had a better piece of beef in town already, but I am critical on a very high level! Their red house wine is delicious if you love an idea of prune in the background. The decor is fabulous, exactly the way you'd imagine a great restaurant in Buenos Aires. The service was very attentive and friendly, prices actually are more than fair: a starter shared, a glass of red wine each and two beef main dishes will cost you $60 only. Don't miss their empanadas!

When you enter "La Esquina de Buenos Aires" in downtown San José, you enter into a beautiful, old world atmosphere, uncomparable to any other restaurant in San José. We loved the framed black and white pictures on the walls, celebrating the old Buenos Aires, its celebrities in 1950s fashion, the beautiful music and the couple at the bar which all of the sudden stood up and danced Tango for a while, before going back to their drinks.
We came here to eat the famous Argentinian meat specialties and that's what we got. The food was very good and the prices correct. But the service was slow and unconcentrated and did not live up to the high expectations we had in such a distinguished restaurant: They kept serving us food we did not order or forgot to bring what we had ordered - always apologizing of course - and in the end even presented us a bill with the food items the people at the neighbouring table had eaten... They corrected the mistake, but offered no complimentary coffee or the like. We were quite upset, which tinted the otherwise nice dinner experience.
On weekends, it is advisable to reserve your table, because the place is extremely popular and gets crowded.
