The place to go for Argentinian food! Delicious food, exceptional steak.

It's a small restaurant so if you are going on a busy day make a reservation.

A must try is the sangria.

I recently just spent a week in San Jose and had dinner twice at La Esquina de Buenos Aires. My first experience was quite unique. The power was out in downtown San Jose and we were not sure if we would get any food that evening. I ran into Walter outside the restaurant opening the windows and asked if they were doing anything for dinner with the power out. He welcomed my friends and I in and said they would cook. My friend was a little worried about how they planned to cook so Walter took us back to the kitchen and showed us the wood burning oven and how they would prepare the food. We had amazing steaks and wine by candlelight that evening and couldn't imagine a better culinary adventure. I would definitely recommend reservations.

First time visitor and plan to go back every time we are in San Jose. Had a wonderful meal, with friendly and courteous service. Varied menu with an excellent wine selection. Had a steak which was cooked exactly as requested - was excellent! Vintage decor, with memorabilia of famous Argentines. Arrived at opening with no reservations and seated immediately, however would definitely recommend reservations as the place was packed (on a Tuesday night) by the time we finished dinner.

La Esquina de Buenas Aires has long been my favorite restaurant in Costa Rica for a number of reasons. It is a small, highly popular neighborhood restaurant with a flair that combines Argentine and Italian influences so often found in Argentina.

They have a delightful menu and a superior assortment of very tasty and affordable Argentine red and white wines. I strongly suggest ordering the house red or white. The wines are so good that there is no reason to overspend on a fancy wine. A single 'copa' is almoust three times the size of a glass of wine in a US restaurant.

The steaks are superior Argentine beef and a welcome change from the tougher less tasty Costa Rican beef. It's not that Costa Rican beef is bad, but, their cattle are bred for tropical disease resistance and can't compare to top notch US or Argentine beef. You can also expect traditional Argentine cuts that differ from US cuts, but they are all superior.

A large salad, a steak with all the trimmings and a very large class of wine with an after dinner coffee costs about 40% of what you would pay in the US at a high end steakhouse such as Morton's, or a Ruth's Chris. The quality simply can't be beat.

La Esquina de Buenas Aires is the place to go when you want a change from 'comida tipica' or simply have a hankering for a superior piece of beef.

I can't visit Costa Rica without including at least one meal at La Esqiuna.
