Despite the title, "Tico Cuisine" is a bit of an exaggeration. But Los Anonos is an exelent restaurant. In any case. We were referred informally by staff at our hotel. Thanks to the gps, we had no problem in driving into the ample parking lot. Obviously it is a place where well-to-do locals go frequently, but there was also a large, happy table celebrating a birthday or an office outing. The place is so big that this party, while loud as we walked by, didn't interfere at all with the rest.
Their beef and fish are of great quality and that's most of what's on the menu. Some nice appetizers and a good wine selection. The waitresses cover a big range in ages and it shows that they are comfortable doing their job, showing that this place is traditional. Not cheap but what it's what you would expect. You won't faint.
While close to San José downtown, you might want to go by taxi if you are not comfortable driving. In any case, GO.
