“Bad Spahetti”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 23, 2013

Ordered spaghetti at close 630PM at the opening of the restaurant. About the 35 minutes later it was placed it front of me, undercooked and way too much salt. My first thought was to leave. After waiting almost 35 minutes you would think you would get a decent bowl of spaghetti. It this restaurant it didn't happened. I will won't ever go back, but if your looking for some bad spaghetti head for this restaurant.

“Quality little Italian restaurant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 24, 2013

Adjacent to the Barcelo Palma Real and well worth visting. Having been treated to a substantial lunch (Classic Costa Rican style) I only had a light meal - lightly curried tiger prawns and pasta. Was very pleasant. Service was very good, and was busy which in itself is a recommendation. Not a large restaurant though this helped create a nice atmosphere. If I had realised this was so close to the adjacent hotel I probably would have eaten here most nights ! Total of 11,000 (approx $22) for meal, beer and coffee.

“Best Italian Restaurant in San Jose”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 11, 2012

This place is really good. We found it 5 years ago on a visit to San Jose and at lunch and dinner here.

On this trip to SanJose we stated in Hotel La Sabana which is maybe 2 blocks away.

We were a little bit concerned after another restaurant we wanted to go to had closed, and when we got the restaurant the lights were out. Well they don't open until 6:30. Now we don't usually dine that early but we had an early fight back to the US, and with security and exit customs...we decided to eat early.

WOW is all I can say. The service culture in Costa Rica is based on a 10% fixed tip that is on your bill so service can be mixed to say the least. At L'Olivo the service is great. Which was most appreciated.

We held of on wine since we had the early flight, but again a nice touch this restaurant has enough customers to have a real wine list and people were ordering wine.

Again we split the meal as usual. We started with a nice bowl of soup each. The tomatoe soup was wonderful, the fresh taste of tomatoes iwth just the right amount of spices. The seafood soup was over the top with just the right amount of spice. I was ready to cancel the main and order more soup.

The main we selected was a chicken, stuffed with cheese and other goodness. Wow again. They brought out the main already split fo us, with really great sides.

Dessert and decaf coffee were also enjoyed.

Now my comment about the best Italian Restaurant in San Jose, maybe an overstatement since we are tourist and this is only our 4th visit to San Jose. But this really is a great restaurant. Reservations in prime season are suggested.

“Outstanding food and service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

Terrific food, better than average service! This little Italian place is extremely good, although rather pricey for our tastes.....but there is not much in the area that is much more reasonable that is good! So we often wind up here. We live in Costa Rica, and stay in that area frequently when in San Jose, which is an overnight trip for us. So we have explored all the restaurants we have found in La Sabana area. This place has excellent seafood, a good wine list, great drinks, knowledgeable servers, good service, and is very nice. I highly recommend it!
