For the price you pay, this has to be one of the best B&Bs you could go to. The rooms are decorated like a five star hotel. Breakfast was fruit and bread, with coffee and fruit juice. Additional items were available for purchase, such as pancakes or gallo pinto.

We were in the annexe and it was really quiet, although in the upper rooms you could hear road noise, nothing that kept us awake.

We looked for a safe, clean and relaxed place in central San José and this was bullseye. Nicely decorated with helpful staff. Small garden-area. Breakfast was fresh and good. As some have mentioned here earlier, this was an oasis/waterhole almost in the city-centre.
Have a beer on the roof terrace and watch the odd commuter train pass by further downhill :)

Such a wonderful splash of color and artistry awaits one at Casa 69!

Just as welcome are the helpful, dedicated and conscientious staff who do their utmost to please their guests and to ensure satisfaction and enjoyment.

We love the use of color, artwork and greenery in the decor! And cats! Beautiful rooftop views of San Jose! Delicious breakfasts with great company with fellow travelers around the globe, yet such a cozy, homey feel!

This is our first trip to San Jose and Casa 69 will be our top recommendation for anyone visiting San Jose.

Pros: affordable, good service, friendly staff, breakfast included

Cons:
-woken up by trains starting early in the morning (~4:30) which is obviously no fault of the hotel owners but was a significant minus.
-for some reason our room was left unlocked everytime it was cleaned. Not sure if this is standard or an oversight. Overall the premises seemed secure and nothing went missing but it was still surprising that our rooms were left unlocked.

I stayed here with a friend on the last day of our 2 week trip around Costa Rica. The owner was super nice and accommodating as we arrived several hours before check in. We had a room with a queen and a king bed. The décor was gorgeous. There was hot water in the shower (not a typical thing in Costa Rica) and a tv in our room. We had access to the courtyard patio from our room which was home to a sweet little cat and her two kittens. I wanted to take one of the kittens home with me!
The free breakfast included fresh fruit, French bread, and jams, coffee, and a fruit smoothie. You could order eggs, meats, and pancakes for an extra cost.
It is located in an OK part of town, but if you are used to being in a safe part of north America, San Jose is a little sketchy. We were told not to bring our passports with us because they could be stolen. Luckily the hotel is close enough to the museums and some restaurants that we didn't need to venture very far.
