We stayed at the Adventure Inn for one night in early September. It was the last day of our visit to Costa Rica and our flight back to the US left early the next morning so we were looking for some place affordable near the airport (a 5-10 km drive away). The inn is located about 1km off the Inter-American highway and is basically between the airport and San Jose. There is very little around the hotel..an Italian restaurant, a pharmacy, a casino, other hotels.

The inn and our room itself were pretty tacky; it didn't really pull off the "adventure" theme. The room was on the smaller side, but clean.

There is a hot tub...but it is weirdly situated in the hallway and wasn't very hot. Lacking motivation to drive anywhere for dinner after 5 days on bumpy Costa Rican roads we had dinner at the restaurant. We had very low expectations but the food, especially the banana split, was surprisingly decent.

Also, we booked our car rental through the Adventure Inn website and got a great, cheap rental and great service from the agency the Inn booked through,Tricolor Car Rental.

Despite the shortcomings mentioned above, the Adventure Inn is a good place to stay if you are looking for an economical one night stay in San Jose. For more info about the rest of our trip to Costa Rica visit our travel blog at http://patrinadoestheglobe.blogspot.com/

We stayed at Adventure Inn three times in total of 6 nights during our 4 weeks trip in Costa Rica this August. It is located in the upscale suburb of San Jose, safe and tranquil yet close to both the airport and downtown. The rooms are big, clean, A/C. Added bonus are free internet stations and workout room and jacuzzi. 15 min walk away is big shopping mall. Owner has responded all our mails fast and with detailed informations. Recommended for families or groups.

Extremely comfortable and convenient. Close to the airport and many exciting adventures. Four internet computers for guests and a complete workout room. Spacious, comfortable, quiet rooms and a full service restruaunt. A wonderful hot tub/jacuzzi and to top it all off.....exceptionally friendly service.
I have stayed at several different hotels in the Heredia, Alajuela, San Jose area and this is the one I will go back to.

Stayed one night with my wife and 4 kids. Convenient for airport, very helpful staff and friendly atmosphere. Breakfast was included and was fine. Quiet at night - my only quarm is that the music from the bar came on about 6.00 am and did wake me.

We needed a place to stay in San Jose on our first and last night in Costa Rica during a recent 2-week trip there; we also needed a place for a one-night layover between a few days in Manuel Antonio and a three-day trip to Tortuguero. Based on the reviews and good ratings on Tripadvisor, we booked all three nights at Adventure Inn.
I'm not sure if the reviewers are staying at the same place we are, but it definitely was overrated. The staff were unhelpful and not friendly. The web site promises that the hotel will reimburse you for your $10 taxi ride from the airport to the hotel, but all they did was raise the originally quoted price $10 and then take the $10 off. I ended up still paying $107+tax, the price quoted before I left home.
The food in the tiny restaurant was barely adequate and overpriced. The rooms were fine, but nothing too exciting. There was barely any hot water in the showers.
There is nothing to do near the hotel (despite the implications on the web site); it's just off the highway and there's nothing you can walk to. A cab ride to the center of San Jose cost almost $20.
The best thing about the place are the computers with free and convenient Internet.
Needless to say, we changed our hotel for our last night in San Jose and were glad we did (for various reasons, we couldn't change it for the second night we were supposed to stay there).

This hotel is definitely more of a budget hotel. I was travelling with my husband and 2 young children (4 and 5 y.o.) We stayed 2 nights as soon as arriving to San Jose. We wanted a place close to the airport and not too expensive. We weren't expecting much but there was definitely room for improvement. Here are the positives and negatives that we experienced:

First positives - The staff, starting with check in, were extremely helpful and polite. They did ask for our taxi receipt to refund our cab ride. Our wake up call for 5 AM was prompt and the taxi was waiting for us on time. The free breakfast was good. The hotel is close to the airport and there is a little pond just outside with ducks that our kids loved. There is also a little mall with a grocery store and restaurant within walking distance (probably about a 20 mins walk). We were able to walk with the girls to get snacks (i.e. fresh baked goods, granola bars, etc) for our long bus ride the next day. Our room was very clean and the beds were comfortable. Although our aircon was noisy, this was a plus because it provided some white noise to block out the voices and noises from outside of our room since we were right across from the hot tub. The temperature of our room was good.

Now for the negatives - When you see and first walk in the hotel, it feels very cheap. Given the location of our room, it was very noisy and aside from two windows that both opened to the corridor and hot tub (which meant no privacy if the curtains were opened), we had no natural light. There were no windows that opened to the outside. I"m not sure if other rooms do have windows with fresh air but it might be worth your while to ask. Also ask for a room that is not beside the hot tub - very noisy!! We did use the hot tub, which our kids enjoyed. It is located right in the middle of the corridor, which was weird - having people walking by and looking at you while you sat there. The temperature was far from hot - more like a warm tub - and at one point the staff turned on the waterfall, which started filling the tub with cold water. Staff were quick to try to fix the problem but weren't very successful. We laughed about it...Yes there were bugs. We saw a cockroach in the restaurant and one outside the door to our room. THey were supposedly going to spray the entire hotel that week. If you are looking for a hotel where you can walk outside and explore, this is not the place for you. You are surrounded by highways and there are no sidewalks for walking. There is a huge mall some distance away but it was too far and dangerous for us to walk to with our kids.

In all I would not stay here again but rather try somewhere else - mainly because of the noisy dark rooms, the busy location and the cockroaches.
