As with many others, this hotel was used at the start of an organised trip, staff were lovely and happy to help with anything at all. Location was great and very close to a lot of cool things to check out.

We stayed at the Autentico for 1 night at the beginning and 1 night at the end of an organised 2 week trip. The hotel is situated about a 15 minute walk from Central San Jose (where there's not that much to do for more than a day really).
The hotel is simple and clean if a bit old fashioned. The rooms are a fairly good size - we were travelling as a couple and had a double bed with a spare single bed and an ensuite.
From chatting to people on our tour, the beds tended to be either rock solid or very spongy. We had a couple of occasions where the power seemed to go out but was quickly rebooted.
There was aircon and a ceiling fan in the room which was great as San Jose was really muggy.

Wifi was ok-ish for Costa Rica

My only real issue is that the walls are paper thin and you can hear everything. When we were there the hotel was full and there were lots of groups of young people running around and making noise - but that seemed to quieten down shortly after midnight.

I would say this hotel is absolutely fine for a couple of nights - cheap, clean, safe and comfortable.

I'll start off by saying that this hotel is good for travelers on a budget who want a clean, updated room. The decor and style of the lobby and rooms make it seem as if they recently went through a renovation to give the hotel a more modern look. This modern look is very nice and makes you think that you are in a more upscale hotel that you really are.
But then, when you look a little more carefully, you will notice the details that have not been updated. Specifically, our bathroom. There were cracks in the tiles in the shower, the grout was very dingy and dirty, and the ventilation was broken. These things really don't bother me; I was just surprised at this after having been so impressed at the decor in the lobby. If you are a person who really cares about the details, you may want to look elsewhere, but if you are a casual, carefree traveler, this hotel will work beautifully.
The staff was helpful, even called me a taxi at 4:00 in the morning so that I could catch my early morning flight out. I also dined in their restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed their chicken and rice (and the great service that came with it!)

We stayed here one night with a student group at the start of our nine-day Costa Rican tour. It started us off on a positive tone.

Clean comfortable rooms. No air conditioning but good cross-breezes through the beautiful courtyards.

Breakfast was very good. Staff were very attentive.

My husband and I did our last night in Costa Rica here on our honeymoon because we were flying out of San Jose. Checking in was a breeze and every staff member we encountered was genuinely nice and wanted to help.

Usually when we get into a nice hotel room we flop our bags down then proceed with our plans for the evening. When we walked into the room here we both had to take a mini tour and of course play the xylophone table!! We loved the room so much it had plenty of space and was very well designed in how everything flows and is sectioned off to keep the open feel but keep the living and sleeping spaces separate.

Ok the restaurant. Delicious food. They were sold out of the wine I first ordered and so decided to give their local (well maybe Nicaraguan) organic wine a try. Delicious!

Great place to stay!

Seems to be in a safe location with a helpful staff. Decent food at the resturant. Middle level hotel and decent enough if you are on a budget. Walking distance to a market if you need to pick up any snacks or food items. Nice pool and common areas.

Had several one-night stays here over the span of about 3 weeks. Staff, especially the front desk, made all the difference. Everyone was genuinely friendly and anxious to be helpful, and everyone was quite happy to converse in English when they discovered how truly awful my Spanish is. Facility is average at best, albeit on the up-swing. Not a central city location, but not all that far out either, and San Jose isn't all that huge anyway. Found the breakfast varied greatly in quality from really great to phoning-it-in over the 3 separate stays, so I guess there's a bit of "luck of the draw" involved.
