“Excelentisimo!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 26, 2014

Christian Martinez, the owner of Costa Rica Drivers, helped make our Costa Rican adventure unforgettable! Always organized, prompt, and informative, Christian's knowledge assisted us in every aspect of our journey. Christian drove us from Central Costa Rica to Arenal, Monteverde, and Manuel Antonio. At each stop his recommendations helped make the experiences unforgettable.

We would highly recommend the La paz waterfall and Poas volcano tours with Costa Rica drivers. In Arenal our naturalist, Giovanni, provided a morning of unforgettable animal viewings. It was an experience to treasure. Hotel Belmar in the Monteverde cloud forest was superb, with outstanding food and beauty. In Manuel Antonio the highlight was Emilio's Cafe. We ate lunch and dinner in this amazing little restaurant. Outstanding service, food, and location.

We would recommend CR Driver to everyone visiting Costa Rica!

“A 10+ on the scale of 1 - 10”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 24, 2014

There should be a new heading above excellent labeled OUTSTANDING.
We did not want to drive in CR during our vacation. Hunting around on the internet for options brought us to Costaricadriver.net not to be confused with the .com of the same name, which is a different company. This was in Nov of 2013, our trip was to be in March 2014. My husband contacted Christain via email with regards to our upcoming trip. We needed transportation from Allejula to Cahuita and back again. We relayed our dates and destinations and wanted a quote on price for transportation of 2 people to and from destinations. Christian promptly emailed us back with all of the information we needed and a quote of $380.00 total for private service. So we booked him, fully expecting to have to pay a deposit up front. Not the case, payment was not expected until the end of the trip. We confirmed our final details of dates, times and locations. Christian sent us an email with everything itemized, including details of the vehicle and also included his local contact number.
We arrived in CR on the night of Mar 4 and took a local cab to our Hotel. The cabbie was not completely certain on where the hotel was so asked his buddies. We got within a block of our hotel before he realized our hotel was on a one-way street, so we had to go around the block.
Next morning of March 5, we arrived early in the lobby awaiting our 10:30 am pick-up. To be honest we were worrying as we had not contacted Christian since Nov. We needn't have worried, Christain arrived. This might be the only time he has ever been a couple of minutes late. Same thing happened to him as with the cab driver. The one-way street made him have to go around the block.
We were met with a very smart dressed young man, who politely introduced himself and carefully loaded our luggage into the van. Being on a very busy narrow street, he carefully watched traffic as he courteously helped us into the van.
The van impressed me. Comfortable, spotlessly clean and the A/C sure felt good. Loads of leg room, especially in the back seat for my husband. I suffer from carsickness if in the back, especially on strange roads. So had the front seat.
Christian took us down a lot of side roads, which he explained kept us away from the San Jose's heavy traffic. We had asked him if he could make one stop to pick up our favorite brand of beer. He said he new the best place to get it. After that it didn't take long before we were clear of the city.
All along the trip it was nice to be able to converse with Christian on every topic under the sun. He speaks fluent English without the accent, that can sometimes be distracting.
What really impressed me was how careful of a driver Christian was. He obeyed all speed limits and never took any chances. I'm a Nervous Nelly type. Not once did I find myself grabbing the hand-rest or holding my breath. Even going up to and through Limon with the congestion of heavy trucks hauling containers to the shipping yards.
We made one stop for lunch and before we knew it we were in Cahuita. Costa Rica's address system is very confusing, with addresses given from locations or buildings that at times haven't existed for years. Christain wasn't familiar with the name of our place, Brigitte's, so I told him it was supposed to be down from the Reggae Bar and he drove straight to it. We actually ended up staying in alternate lodging next door. The 4 1/2 hr. drive didn't seem that long. We arrived rested and relaxed instead of tired and stressed out, if only airplane travel was that relaxing and comfortable.
Christain was going to be staying overnight in the next town as he had a return trip scheduled with a family the next morning. Now I know what the child's car seat was for. We said our goodbyes and confirmed our pick-up on the 12th. We were more than willing to pay for the first leg of our journey, but Christain wouldn't except it. He said after our trip was over. Wow, we're not used to that kind of trust in this day and age.
We spent a busy week of horseback riding. Galloping down deserted black sand beaches, riding through jungle and riding and hiking to waterfalls.
On the 12th it was time to leave and Christain showed up right on time promptly at 10:30 am at our changed accommodation. This was despite him having to leave home at around 5 am to come get us.
I requested one brief stop at the Sloth Sanctuary to go to the gift shop. After that it was pretty much smooth sailing. One stop for lunch and a break at a really decent roadside restaurant.
Once we got closer to the San Jose area, traffic started to get heavier. Our mistake to forget about rush hour. Trafffic slowed down to a crawl and then at one intersection a dead stop for about 15 minutes or more. Motorcycles were the only thing making any progress. They weaved in and out of traffic, down the centerline, along the curbs and one guy down the sidewalk. Despite being cut off countless times and having cars butting into traffic, Christain had such complete cool composure it was amazing. We in the Western world could learn from this, instead of the road rage and stress we put ourselves through. It must have taken us close to 3 hours to get through the city to our hotel and I don't think Christian batted an eyelid.
We had asked him his opinion of getting a cab the next morning for our flight. He said he could come and pick us up as he didn't live that far away. Great another worry off our minds. I paid him right there for our trip. He had only wanted $10.00 more for airport shuttle service, but we paid him more than that. For him to get up at that time in the morning and drive us seemed to be worth more than $10.00 for the peace of mind.
Very early the next morning there he was again right on time to the second. Traffic was light so it was a quick 5 minute drive to the airport. Where we said our goodbyes.
To conclude, anyone travelling to CR and are thinking of driving themselves, DON'T DO IT. Get Christian or his drivers to take care of that part and just sit back and relax. Have them transport you in complete safety. Avoid the stress and dangers of the road, it is worth every penny and then some. You can have complete confidence in them that they have your safety first in mind. Their undivided attention is on the road, with no phonecalls or texting done while driving.
At the end of our trip we thought of Christain as more of a friend than our driver.
If we are in CR again and need transportation, Christain is the guy we will call without hesitation.
Thx my friend from 2 very appreciative Canadians you are OUTSTANDING.

“Oscar made our trip special”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 9, 2014

Oscar Chavarria Mora was our driver. He knew exactly what places we would enjoy. He was extremely familiar with the restaurants that we went to and helped us sort out the menus. He was prompt, courteous and made our trip enjoyable. I would say that Oscar would be the reason that I will return to Costa Rica.

“Couldn't be better!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 4, 2014

Christian, the owner, did everything he could to make our transportation in Costa Rica as smooth as possible. He was extremely accommodating and organized during our entire trip including a last minute change to our itinerary where we had to leave one location for another one day early. Our driver, Karlay was absolutely fantastic! We soon began to see him more as a friend giving us a tour of his country rather than him simply being our driver. This is a fantastic crew of individuals and I will be recommended them to anyone I know who will be traveling to Costa Rica.

Thank you Karlay and Christian!

“Oscar a fantastic Driver”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 25, 2014

I put together a trip for four couples to explore the Best of Costa Rica...I was worried about having a driver that could take us everywhere we wanted to go, and also suggest itineraries that would be of interest to us. Oscar was exceptional at the job. English speaking and very congenial, he made the trip a pleasure for all of us. He suggested places to eat that had excellent cuisine and easy on the pocket book. He was punctual whenever we set up a time for pick up. The trip would not have been the same without him...We highly recommend him, and since we will be returning we will definitely ask for him as our driver.
