Wow, this is a very spectacular museum in central San Jose. It not only displays wonderful artifacts, but tells the story of Costa Rican history. The interior is beautiful with its curved staircase leading down into the various galleries. Plan to spend several hours at this wonderful museum, located beneath the plaza next to the National Theater.

This museum is what drew us to spend a day in San José - my husband heard about it on the radio and wanted to go. It was a neat museum; I enjoyed the history on how the items were made, as well as the the upper level exhibit on Costa Rican currency. Not a huge place, but it kept us busy for a while.

We had an extra day in San Jose each of the 3 times we visited San Jose. This is not a must see place in our opinion but it was interesting and the gift shop had lots of nice gifts for the people back home.

St Jose isn't the most interesting of cities, but if you're there and have some time,I'd recommend visiting this museum. There is a spectacular amount of treasure to see. Wished I'd had time to look at the coins too, not expensive and one ticket covers all three museums.

There's not a lot to see in San Jose but this is one place worth spending an hour or so. Interesting building and history. Displays very well laid out and containing some fabulous stuff.
