“Extensive Collection of Pre-Columbian Gold Artifacts”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

It was amazing to see this very extensive collection within the country; glad not all of it were not taken by the Spanish colonialists.

“Ok, but not much to do in San Jose city”
Reviewed February 22, 2013

Its located right next to and almost under the Teatro nacional, across from taco bell. Once inside, it is very easy to miss out on something as the museum is a little tough to navigate through. The top floor is all about the history of the currency of Costa Rica. The 2nd floor has some nice paintings, but there are not many, as expected in the name of the museum. The description everything gold in the history of Costa Rica, this museum does a good job. I am not one for museums but this was ok, and because there is not much to do in San jose, I would say if you're here for 2 or 3 days you should take a visit. It is not a must visit, but I would recommend seeing a play at the teatro and going to the artisan market before coming here. Cost is $8 US for students, $11 US for others. I would say its worth about $5 in reality though

Very detailed and interesting museum dedicated to the history of Costa Rica's currency (numismatics) and it's pre-Columbian inhabitants.
