Housed in the old fort where Costa Rica's military was abolished in 1948, this museum offers a number of interesting historical exhibits and the bonus of a beautiful butterfly garden. Noteworthy exhibits include a pre-Columbian artifact collection and a timeline of the civil war and events leading to the end of the military displayed in a tower where original holding cells, latrines and lookouts are preserved. The organization of some of the exhibits seem a bit out of sequence, but the English translations are good enough to follow and at about US$8 for an adult ticket, this is a great value.
