San Jose is not know for its museums, but this one can afford an informative and pleasant visit. The last time I was there, the Christmas display was still up in late February!

I actually visited this museum back in 2011. I was suprised at the lovely butterfly garden that you start off walking through. My favorite part was the dungeon area. Prisoners carved things all over the walls, there's barely an inch of empty space, it was really interesting.

We always like to hit a museum when we travel. It helps us learn about the local culture and helps us put many things in perspective. The museum was interesting, and the exhibits were both in English and Spanish, making it easier for us to understand and helping with our Spanish skills

we enjoyed seeing the architecture of Costa Rica esp in San Jose where it's a bustling city of people on the move.

The National museum is but a short walk from central San Jose...located in a beautiful park..as you enter you go through the Butterfly Sanctuary...there are literately thousands of butterfly s...all types and stages...showing how butterflys change from larvae to butterfly..they will actually land on your hand and arm..I even had one land on my nose...as you exit the sanctuary...you are transported back in history...the the beginning of Central America...and pre history...the exhibits are well laid out..descriptions in both Spanish and English...definitely recommend those with children...
