“Very interesting”
Reviewed March 26, 2013

My husband and I stayed in San Jose an extra couple of days just to check out the museum. This one is very interesting facts about Costa Rica. There is a butterfly garden inside too. It housed lovely Morpho Butterflies. The butterflies are drab on the outside of the wings but a vibrant blue on the inside of the wings only noticeable as they fly. There is a spot in the museum that looks out over San Jose and if you go to the west just at the edge of the property the shopping begins. The shopping seems to go on forever.

“Best plase for school visits.”
Reviewed March 25, 2013 via mobile

I have been there with my Mom and by myself and I always remember here as my favorite destination to learn about the history of these beloved Costa Rica. From gold to presidents to Cristobal Colon to Indians. These should be a must if you are visiting Costa Rica.

“National Museum”
Reviewed March 10, 2013

entrance is at the lower level now, and one walks through the butterfly gardens to get to the cultural part of the museum now. Descriptions are written in both Spanish and English, and we found it very interesting

“Nice if limited museum”
Reviewed March 3, 2013

I feel that the National Museum is Costa Rica in a nutshell - a former army barracks converted into a butterfly garden and museum. It's a really interesting space and it has some strong exhibits. I do think that some of the information could be presented better for maximum impact. It's definitely not a very big museum, and I think you could easily explore it in less than two hours. If you're interested in history and have some free time in San Jose, I think it would be worth checking out. If not, I don't think you're missing that much.
