Owner description: The Jade Museum and of precolumbian culture is positioned as an innovative state-of-the-art cultural proposal in the protection and conservation of archaeological heritage in Central America. Located in the center of Costa Rics's capital, the building was especially constructed to house the museum's collection, its architecture evoking a cut jade block. Its five levels exhibit objects crafted by artisans specialized in solving their daily subsistence needs, their spiritual and political world.

“good insight into pre-Columbian culture!”
Reviewed February 1, 2013

Amazing collection of jade artifacts and a good explanation of their uses and ceremonial/religious significance. A well-organised and fascinating exhibit, but I would recommend visitng AFTER Museo de oro pre-Columbino

“Jade museum, better archaeological museum”
Reviewed January 31, 2013

Small museum,on ground floor of security building. Lots of carved jade, terra cotta objects and volcanic rock items. Most, if not all, per-Colombian, found in graves sites across the country. Jan 2013, $9 per person, or 4500 colones.

“Interesting large collection”
Reviewed January 24, 2013

Has a large collection, a pity that the logistics in the collection are not well thought out, and that quite a lot of the explanations are in Spanish.

“Good exhibits”
Reviewed January 14, 2013

The museum is excellent and what I enjoyed most of all was the way they intermingled jade and ceramics. It is a must see

“A unique little museum highlighting Costa Rica's pre-history”
Reviewed January 7, 2013

This well-done museum is worth a trip into San Jose. The role of jade and the inter-tribal trading needed to obtain a gem that does not occur in Costa Rica shows how much interaction the Indian tribes and cultures had before the Spanish arrived.
