“Beautiful display of Costa Rican talent!”
Reviewed December 20, 2011

This Museo de Arte Costarricense is a definte must-see on any trip to San Jose!! The museum is located in the former San Jose Airport, and the building has been perfectly renovated and preserved to look exactly as it did in its glory days. The outdoor sculpture garden is absolutely beautiful, and I was in awe of all the local talent and the story behind the various pieces. Be sure to take in the mural upstairs that depicts Costa Rica's history from when they were discovered to present day.

“Must-See Attraction for Art Lovers who visits Costa Rica”
Reviewed October 26, 2011

This place is located in Parque La Sabana, in which the building is actually the old Costa Rican International Airport in the early 20th century. It is free to come in, and usually they feature the art works of a local artist, in which at that time, it was Otto Apuy. He is a multimedia artist, and I was shown his paintings and other art figures he has done, which has lot of Chinese influence, in homage to his Oriental roots,

There is also art works and sculptures in and out of the museum, and the Golden Room where in the whole room had walls in gold relief showing the figure history of Costa Rica from the Pre-Columbian era to the modern times.

The museum also has workshops, and schedules of those are posted right at the entrance. Cameras are allowed!

For its free admission alone, it is an worthy attraction in itself if you are in Costa Rica. And it is just right there in the park, impossible to miss!

“History of Costa Rica in gold relief”
Reviewed July 8, 2005

A visit to the Museo de Arte Costarricense is a review of Costa Rican life through painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography and drawing. Antique and contemporary pieces reveal the views of the Costa Rican people.

Be sure to visit the history of Costa Rica as it is shown in life size bas relief around the walls of the Room of Gold complete with a grand piano. I was fortunate enough to have a private concert while I strolled through history.
