Very nice hotel, service and BREAKFAST. Good /safe location next to very active park.
Driver picked us up at 5AM at SJO. They were able to get us into a room by 8AM even though check in was 12, 1 or 2ish. Room was clean and close to grocery store, restaurants and not too far from the central area of downtown San Jose. We walked to downtown but it was a little far. There is a nice Argentinian restaurant 100 steps south and Donny took good care of us there (he spoke good english).
Reality check:
Costa Rica is not North America (we haven't traveled much). Most of the areas are kinda 90's ish and we felt a little out of place not knowing the language. We never felt threatened but we never felt really comfortable. We are looking forward to traveling to the beach and hopefully find some english speaking folks to drink a beer with. Turns out there are not many (any) pubs in central CR to hang in.

Room Tip: Not a lot of rooms, so I would guess that all are good

Thank you for such a great review! We are so glad we could be a part of your first experience in Costa Rica. It is true, Costa Rica is far from being a first world country, but if you give it a chance, it will certainly grow on you!! For hanging out and relaxing Pura Vida style, our beaches are a good bet. Hopefully, on your next visit we will have the privilege of serving you again and can share some tips on getting to know the other side of Tico Culture. Thank you again and hope you have a great day. Best regards!

This hotel is in a great location at the entrance to the downtown area. Management is very helpful, great breakfast. I have used this hotel many times and it always feels like coming home. Simple and very clean.

Room Tip: I prefer the rooms in the back for the quiet.

This is *the* best hotel I have ever been to! When we arrived we were greeted with drink. (Tea, coffee, juice) The rooms were beautiful and very clean. I loved the theme of the hotel. (hummingbirds, blueish-greenish decor) The breakfast buffet was stunning - pancakes, eggs cooked to order, gallo pinto (tradition Costa Rican breakfast) a side dish (when we were there some of the sides were empanadas, fried potatoes/yuka etc) bread, jams, cornbread/a sweet bread, juices, milk coffee tea, etc. In the afternoon fresh homemade cookies, tea, coffee, and hot cocoa were available. The staff was wonderful and helpful. The pool was good, but cold, the wifi was quite good and so was the sauna.

We go to this place whenever we can, but for the last couple of times it has been booked due to its great popularity.

Room Tip: The rooms with the balconies overlooking the pool are very nice.

When we arrived Costa Rica had JUST beaten Italy in the world cup. The whole of San Jose was filled with people celebrating. Yet the hotel was a peaceful oasis after a long day of travelling. The hotel is very secure. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Dave was especially fun to chat with. The hotel is not a chain, and has some very beautiful design features to it. The courtyard with pool is a nice area to relax and watch the children play & swim. The walkway between the parking area and hotel is gorgeous, with a vine covered roof over the walkway.

We travelled throughout Costa Rica, We used this hotel at the beginning and end of our trip. It was nice and close to the airport, so after a day of travel it was a great place to relax and see the city. Then after many adventures in Arenal and Playa Samara, it was nice to come back and know that our last few days could be spent relaxing.

The breakfasts were fantastic. The ladies that cooked we very sweet and attentive.

We stayed at the Apartotel La Sabana for 4 nights, 6/15-6/19/14. We rented the 2 bedroom apartment.

The lobby is clean and comfortable. Upon check in, complimentary coffee and biscuits are offered while you wait. They have secure parking.

Our room was on the far side of the hotel, 2nd floor, overlooking the pool. The pool courtyard is spacious with comfortable lounge chairs and tables and chairs to sit in as well as nice flowers and plants to enjoy. The pool is large and rectangular with a beautiful mosaic waterfall and falls into it, making awesome water sounds that you can hear from your room. The hallways are plain and clean with gorgeous art painted by the owner of the hotel (also decorating the rooms).

Our rooms were cozy, walk in and the bathroom (small) is on the left and then the kitchenette (complete with stove, oven, microwave, coffee maker, fridge with freezer, sink and cooking/eating supplies. There is a table for 4 and a small living room with a couch (also a twin bed) and two chairs. A small balcony is off the living room with one chair to sit on. The immediate view is of the pool, courtyard and the rooms across the way. Beyond, there is what looks like a parking lot and then you don't see much else of the city. The master bedroom has a full size bed, TV and is rather spacious with the same size balcony and another chair to sit on. The 2nd bedroom has 2 twin beds and a TV. Both bedrooms have AC, but the living area does not. There also is not a TV in the living room (not needed). The beds were very comfortable and they supplied us a pack n play for the baby free of cost. The living area is pretty cozy, but certainly sufficient even with the pack n play and 5 of us total. The bedrooms have good size closets as well.

The complimentary breakfast was AMAZING and included made to order eggs, beans, rice, pancakes, fruit, fruit juices, milk, cereal, toast, yogurt and of course coffee. The breakfast alone was worth a minimum of $40/day making the 2 bedroom apartment a steal!

They offer free airport transportation starting at 4am (which we had to leave at 3am so we were unable to take advantage of) and a coin operated washer and dryer to clean the damp off of your coastal clothes ($2 a load and includes the laundry soap!) I also believe they offer a laundry service, but we didn't partake.

From the hotel, there is a RostiPollo down the street as well as an Italian restaurant. A few blocks down is an AM/PM convenience store and several ATM's, not to mention La Sabana park across the street from RostiPollo. More restaurants are a few blocks the other way (towards downtown) including a Brazillian Steakhouse). Convenient location to downtown ($5 cab ride to the market) even less by bus (we had a 9 month old, didn't want to mess with the bus) and close to Pavas and Plaza Major shopping mall (5 miles maybe)? With family in Pavas, this hotel will now be literally our home away from home!

Wow, what a great description of our Family Apartment!! We couldn´t have done it better, thank you so much! We are so glad you enjoyed our breakfast. The ladies that cook and serve breakfast, put a lot of heart and mind into our ever changing menus! Such praise will make their hearts sing! Also, thank you so much for mentioning our other services, such as the transport from/to the airport and laundry options. We hope you visit us again and that we should have the privilege of serving you. Thank you and have a great day. Best regards!

Each and every employee was most respectful, helpful and considerate of our needs. The rooms and common areas were very clean and all of our needs were met in a timely manner. There are city/street noises on the front side of the hotel, especially during rush hour (early am) so try and reserve a room in the back. The pool is spectacular and the surround garden area is pristine as well. Breakfast is tipico of Costa Rican cuisine and fresh fruit is bountiful.

Room Tip: Choose a room in the rear of the courtyard for a more quiet experience.
