Chose this place because of the great review, specially about the breakfast. They're not kidding- lovely way to start a trip. Unexpected little oasis in a rather bland neighborhood (not much to see around there but whatever, we just went to rest before starting a road trip). Looooved the decorations, i'm a huge fan of Boruca masks and they have a bunch. Would give it a higher rating but there were some flies (we didn't mind really) and a somewhat musty smell in the bedroom. Staff is friendly and helpful, a very organized business with a mom and pop feel.

Dear Ambar: We much value your commentary. Our Boruca masks, acquired 15 years ago directly from the Indians, are one of our treasures. We much regret the problems you have found in your room. We invite our customers to contact immediately the Reception Desk any time they find something irregular in the rooms in order to correct the situation right away. Our staff is trained to give a satisfactory solution to any problem related with our services. We work very hard in keeping the rooms and social areas clean. We use a diversity of well known biodegradable products and provide professional assistance to our maid staff every week. For this reason we will be very grateful if our customers help us achieving our cleaning excellence by letting us know immediately if they find some deficiency in this subject. Once again, thank you for your feedback and we hope you give us a new opportunity to provide you a "most pleasant lodging experience".

We stayed twice during our five week visit to Costa Rica, two days at the beginning of our trip (that we extended to six) and another three in March on our way home The hotel is older but very charming and the staff were friendly and efficient, from our first reservation to booking tours and through our final checkout. The area is quieter than downtown but still within walking distance of lots of San Jose attractions. There's a group of restaurants fairly nearby on Calle 33 (Aya Sofia, for instance) and also more just a few blocks to the west (Cafe Mundo, Cafe de los Deseos, Hotel Amistad). Breakfast is as good as everyone reports - no need to start your day anywhere else. We pay more for the private bath, but the smaller rooms look comfortable as well.

We are happy reading that you have spent a relaxed time with us. Like you said, our Hotel is nearby of many restaurants. In the same area of Restaurant Aya Sofia, our customers can find also many little fancy bars, lounge and pizzas places. Also, at only few blocks from the Hotel, bars as Costello’s and Bar Buenos Aires are fluently visited by costarricans. We hope you will visit one again Costa Rica and our Hotel in the future.

We stayed at Hotel Aranjuez for one night in March at the recommendation of Bucus Tours in Manzanillo, Costa Rica. Meltema booked our room a week in advance and we didn't even need to provide a deposit or credit card information!
Our room was small but included our own bath and it was very clean and functional. We enjoyed the evening air sitting in the garden. The breakfast next morning was comparable to the better hotel brunches served only on Sunday in this region.
The staff were pleasant and professional and seemed genuinely pleased to answer any and all questions.
Given the location, the price and helpful staff, this is one little hidden gem, you won't want to miss.

Dear customer: We are so proud that you had considered Hotel Aranjuez as a “little hidden gem”. For us is a joy to know that you have felt comfortable in our large terraces giving to the traditional patios, full of flowers, “cas” and “mango” trees. The warm hospitality of costarrican people is part of our heritage and one of the most important facts that we want to be remembered by our customers. We are so aware of keeping all our traditions and reach others as the recuperation of our culinary richness and the Costarrican goal of being a Neutral Carbon Country in 2021. Once again, thank you for your commentary and for the nice photos.

This hotel is located in one of the nicer areas of San Jose and is about a 10 minute walk to the downtown area. There are very nice common areas including gardens and 2 computers set up for internet usage. The breakfast included was very good with lots of fresh fruits and baked breads and I also had an omelette cooked to order. The room included a free safe for valuables. The superior room I had was next to the road so I could hear some road noise during the night but not too bad. The hotel called me a taxi to go to the Tracopa bus station the next day. It cost around 1600 colones ($3.20 US) for the taxi ride which I thought was inexpensive. This would be my first choice if I am staying in the downtown area of San Jose again!

stayed here 3 times in our 7 week winter holiday in Costa Rica. First time in a small, shared bathroom, room at only $30. Considering it included a buffet breakfast for the two of us it was a bargain. The room was clean and comfortable. the staff were extremely helpful and friendly giving good advice on restaurants and directions. Left some goods in storage as we traveled to the carribean. Returned for one night and got a room in the apartment across the street. A bit more expensive but well worth it. Returned several weeks later and got another room at the annex. It was extremely comfortable. Nice hot water, comfy bed, a real working tv. only nice things to say about this place. good location...walkable to downtown and the museums, markets and neighbourhoods.

Dear Kushner: We appreciate a lot the nice words about the services offering by Hotel & Apartamentos Aranjuez. Our staff is very proud of the recognition of their job made by you. We also are glad to read that you have enjoyed our neighborhood, which represents a very important part of costarican history. Many patrimony buildings as Calderón Guardia Hospital, Calderón Guardia Museum, Iglesia Santa Teresita, La Aduana and Casa del Cuño are located at only few blocks walking distance. We hope you give us the privilege of having you as our regular customer.

My two sisters and I stayed at the Hotel Aranjures on two seperate days in March. The reason we chose this hotel was the price, and the proximity to downtown San Jose. The reasonable rooms were clean, comfortable and quiet. With directions from the helpful staff, and a map from the information area, we were able to walk to downtown San Jose and visit the Plaza de la Cultura, National Theater, Gold Museum, and central market.

The Aranjuez has free wi-fi two free computers for those of us not carrying an Ipad.

The breakfast was wonderful. The tables were set up on a balcony overlooking the garden, and in the garden itself. There is coffee available throughout most of the day, and is wonderful costa Rican coffee. The second stay we ate lunch at cafe recomended by the desk clerk. Very local and interesting.

The only problem I had was making a reservation. The reservation form must be downloaded off the computer and sent via fax as a Credit card authorization form. The room is a few dollars less if you pay cash (in U.S. dollars) when you arrive. We received a reservation form via email. My guidebook recommended calling or emailing to confirm the reservation prior to arriving.

All in all the stay here was very good, with good value for our money. Mary B.

Dear Mary: We much appreciate your commentary. In our map of San José, our customers can find information about the main tourist places located near the Hotel and downtown. We regret the problem you have had making the reservation. We just request a Credit Card Authorization Form during the High Season. In any case, we are looking to change this system once we download the new site. Once again thank you for all the punctual information about our Hotel and our hospitality.

I've stayed at Hotel Aranjuez several times in 2007, 2008, and now in 2013 and I've always been happy with my stay. What I love about this hotel is that it's clean, there are relaxing areas to sit and chat with your travel companions, when I'm traveling alone I feel safe, I absolutely love the breakfast and I've always found the staff to be very helpful. I think it's a great choice and excellent value.
