We were able to tag on to a tour when we were there and learned so much about this theatre. Very well preserved piece of history.

“Beatiful architecture”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 13, 2013

The National theater is a remarkable piece of architecture... The statues outside are just as beautiful...I have not yet seen a performance there...but just to go see the magnificence of the building..it is located in a beautiful park...on the Central ave...where there is only pedestrian traffic is allowed...well worth the time to see..and explore...

Great price for a great musical experience. If you don't like classical music you will fall a sleep.

“Ok”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 30, 2013

We didn't see any show here so my review is based on my sighting of the building. This theater was known for its best lighting at night and best building in San Jose so we visited both day and night. I think it is pretty ok/ average. Inside the theater there is a gift shop and things are pretty expensive. That was pretty much my experience with this place. It is alright but worth a picture.

“Opulent Theater, great tour, awesome cafe and cool modern dance performance”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 23, 2013

Opulent Theater, great tour, awesome cafe and cool modern dance performance. I spent an afternoon and night at the Teatro Nacional of San Jose, Costa Rica. The place sadly was made for the ultra rich at the expense of the poor but now it is available to all to explore and enjoy. Italian Marble, Murano glassword, Belgian steel, etc. top-end construction and beautiful artwork throughout. The cafe has great pastries and coffee (coffee flavored sauce sandwich was OK but wasn't for me). Tour was great and tour guide showed me his photo with the President of Costa Rica when she visited (She has a box and you could sit next to the box any night for the chance of sitting next to her... try doing that in the USA!). A performance that night had 3 different modern dance performances which were really though provoking and beautiful and they only cost $7 for a seat in the 2nd row! I highly recommend checking the Theater and Cafe out and the neighborhood (museums, casinos, shops, restaurants, etc.)
