“didn't want to go, loved it!”
Reviewed November 14, 2012

I really thought I wasn't going to be surprised.... but I was!. It's a lost gem in downtown San José. The building is beautifull, and really enjoyed speaking to the people working in the restoration. They show passion and love for this historic place. The central ceiling painting is a must!! In a french type ambience, you find this amazing huge ceiling painting with the story of the Costa Rica's cafe harvest, with its lively colors. I loved the door knobs, as well...
and to top it all..., as you are about to leave the theater building, on your left there's a small store with native artists modern handcrafts!!! beware....I wanted to buy everything!!!!

“A BIT OF PARIS IN SAN JOSE”
Reviewed November 11, 2012

THE jewel of Costa Rica is located in the middle of downtown San Jose offering international performances in a setting from two centuries ago. The ceiling frescoes are superb.

“Jonathan Duarte”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

Jonathan Duarte is an 18 year old pianist with dual citizenship, Canadian and Costa Rican. His phenomenal talent has been recognized with performances in Carnegie Hall, Interlachen, and several European capitals. He is presently studying at a prestige institution in Moscow, Russia.
This was his second concert at the Teatro Nacional. The ambience is great, the acoustics first class, and the audience attentively appreciative. While Jonathan loves Chopin and Dvorak his performance this night reflected Russian influence, including Rimsky-Korsakov and Tschaikovsky. For anyone interested in mature culture a visit to Teatro Nacional to hear the symphony or a massed choir is an unforgettable experience.
