The Presidente is a great place to stay downtown Dan Jose. It's clean, safe and is in a great location. The staff is friendly and helpful. There is high speed Internet (not WiFi) in the rooms, and everyone is supper nice.

There are a couple of small downsides that are not really deal breakers for me. First, you don't want to book your excursions through them, unless you want to pay a premium. They are overpriced for taxis and other transportation. But that's to be expected at any hotel really.

Second, it can be a bit noisy outside. Keep in mind that this is on a very busy shopping street with nightclubs that can go very late. The first time I stayed there, there was quite a bit of noise coming from the street until nearly 3am. I am a night person, so I like it. But I did see someone pretty heated in the lobby the next morning complaining. So if you really need quiet, you may want to stay in a different part of town.

El Presidente is located in the heart of San Jose and is safe and reasonably priced.
We have been using this hotel annually for the last 10 years. The facilities are great and the restaurant and bar are exceptional. The rooms have been upgraded and are beautiful; however, the staff is their greatest asset. Everyone is neat, courteous, friendly and cheerful; they are a joy. Thanks for being such a terrific hotel.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I first saw San Jose but this hotel was very cute and charming. It's right downtown so it's a little loud but the room was clean and the beds were comfortable. Walking distance to many restaurants. Negatives: the air conditioner is a bit noisy and inconsistent. I received an email from them the day I was there saying there was a mistake in the rates and the price is higher on weekends. (the hotel was booked 2 months in advance)

Hotel Presidente is bang in the centre of downtown SJ - we booked on recommendation on trip advisor and were not disappointed. We stayed 2 nights in a standard room and then later 1 night in a spa room, which was enormous - more like a suite, separate living area, large hot tub, gigantic comfortable bed. It was worth the extra for the upgrade.
The restaurant (News Cafe ) does good food at reasonable prices - certainly better value than than Balmoral across the road. All the main sights are within walking distance, as are the 3 main markets. Recommend the Artenesal market for souvenirs and gifts and the central market for a cheap lunch with the locals. We were disappointed with the jade museum, expensive @$7 pp.

I can't say enough good things about the accommodating staff at Hotel Presidente. Jonathan and Erick went above and beyond to help procure bus tickets to Panama, and book last minute excursions for us. In addition the hotel was extremely accommodating when our air conditioner had problems, quickly moving us into another room. Even changing a light bulb or battery in the safe was responded to and resolved promptly. The hotel has a nice buffet breakfast included in the room rate, and the lobby News Cafe is great for lunch/dinner, cocktails, and people watching. The hotel is centrally located in San Jose. I very much enjoyed my stay in this hotel and would highly recommend it.
