Everything was amazing and beautiful in Costa Rica until we got to San Jose downtown. Hotel Presidente location is the worst with horrible parking. The hotel is situated in the busy, rundown downtown with hustling and bustling commuters, traffic and buses. The streets are narrow, conjested and one-way. If you miss a turn, good luck! It took us 1.5 hours to travel couple of miles to get to the hotel. Hotel Presedente sign could be seen a quarter block away but there are no signs of parking. The hotel is built on top of scruffy shops and businesses that are locked down with metal bars at night. We had to drive around the downtown few times trying to find the hotel parking lot. We saw a small "private" parking lot adjacent to the hotel...we took our chances and entered the lot ready to pay. We were tired from driving 5 hours in heavy rain and just wanted to check in to the hotel. Fortunately this was the hotel's parking lot - very small and narrow, fits 6-7 cars. It was full and we were told to back up and park across the street in another parking lot. Are you kidding me? How do you back out to a one way street with bumper to bumper traffic with aggressive bus drivers, taxi drivers, and pedestrians? We were appauled. The good thing is the parking attendant helped us by blocked the traffic (without being runover as there is no street light here) so my husband could back out straight into the parking lots across the street. I don't why anyone would want to stay in this hotel - its not close to the airport, the rooms are extremely small compared to other hotels (we couldn't even find space to put our luggage), there is no swimming pool or hot tub, no sit down restaurant (the bar and the breakfast area are in the lobby), horrible and overpriced food at the hotel's bar, horrible and inadequate parking (we had to haul our luggage from across the street in heavy rain), and the view of the rundown shops and metal bars with people running here and there to catch the bus and taxi drivers laying on the horn to keep pedestrians out of their way! The downtown is anything but a nice quaint town or upscale area where you would enjoy taking a stroll and eat at a nice restaurant. I live in Los Angeles area and have never seen anything like this! I wish we did not have to experience this on the last day of our vacation in Costa Rica.

We stayed at this hotel for 1 night and we really liked it. The staff is friendly, the buffet is good and the rooms were very clean, nice decorated and big.
The hotel is just in the heart of San Jose, we were able to walk around to see a bit of the city.

Room Tip: The rooms were really nice, we stayed at the room 402 and it was lovely! very clean, spacious, and comfortable.

My wife and I stayed here for two nights back in June of 2013. After arriving into the airport late at night we were taken to the hotel by an airport taxi (roughly $20.00). If you were looking for the hotel on your own it may be hard to find, but due to its popularity the locals and taxi drivers all know how to get there.

The hotel was neat and well kept. Check in was a breeze. Our room was on the 4th floor. The view was pretty much just of a roof and a ladder, but you generally don't stay at a hotel in the center of San Jose if you are looking for a view. Some of the rooms on the higher floors do have beautiful views overlooking the city.

The breakfast included with the hotel was delicious. All staff at he hotel were pleasant to deal with. The hotel is centrally located in San Jose so you are within walking distance to many of the attractions when visiting the city.

This hotel was great for its central location and pricing. The rooms were adequate. This hotel was a very good hotel for the price we paid.

I stayed here overnight before my flight out the next day. The location of the hotel is well suited to do souvenir shopping and within walking distance of the major attractions. There are also a number of dining options near the hotel. The staff were great and the service provided was of high quality. A nice hotel to spend the night when arriving into or leaving Costa Rica!

We stayed at this hotel the last two nights of our vacation in Costa Rica. My husband really wanted to see the city. If you have to stay in San Jose, I would highly recommend Hotel Presidente. It is located right on the main pedestrian avenue and it was easy to walk to all of the major sites from the hotel. The hotel itself was a haven from the crowded city. The rooms are very nice with comfortable beds, AC, and lots of space. Their breakfast buffet was delicious. We ate dinner there the first night and it was also very good. We felt the price for food and drinks at the hotel was extremely reasonable, which is nice. The hotel has a shuttle that will take you to the airport if you need it for $30.

Dear Historygirl3,

Gracias for your great review. We are very pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us.

We would also wish to let you know how much we appreciate your review of the Teatro Nacional. It is an impressive and historical building of which many visitors are not aware and don’t get to see.

We hope that your journey through Costa Rica was also a memorable one, and that you have a safe trip back home.

At your service,

Daniel Mikowski
