This hotel is in downtown San Jose. It's walking distance to anything you need. Stayed there on a Sunday so the main market is closed but it was still jam packed with people. A zoo, a few museums, casino and historical buildings are all within walking distance. The hotel itself had three restaurants and a pool. The nicest restaurant is closed on Sundays but the other two were just fine. The rooms were some of the nicer ones I have stayed at in Costa Rica. The hotel staff was helpful and very polite. Getting a taxi to the airport was easy. There are taxis in front of the hotel, available at all hours. I will be staying here again on my next visit.

Stayed here with my girlfriend and her daughter in February of 2019. I found the hotel to be very clean, they have a pool, heated, gymnasium, and on sight dining available. The hotel is in downtown San Jose, it is very nice, and has security on sight. The city of San Jose is easily accessible on foot or by cab. This is a nice hotel to stay at for a family. The hotel has hot water and all rooms have air conditioning. The in room tv has multiple channels in English and Spanish.

Room tip: The floors higher in hotel seem to have a better view of city, mountains.

Just had the most amazing customer service experience. Sometime late this afternoon on the way back to the hotel, the car developed a crack in the power steering hose. The valet service noticed the leak when they parked the car and called me in the room to check it out. They helped me find a mechanic that makes hotel calls. Walked me to the nearest ATM, and stayed an hour late after work until the mechanic was finished taking off the hose. Tomorrow morning the mechanic will be back to put the new hose on and we'll be on our way.

Stayed at this property twice during a recent 10 day trip to Costa Rica. Our first night we got a "dog room" on the 5th floor - old decor, not refreshed in decades, stained carpet with a view of air conditioning units. It also took four calls to the front desk over three hours to get an extra blanket. On our second stay, it was a completed different experience on the 15th floor - renovated room, bathroom amenities, robe (just one though), comfortable beds with duvets and a city scape view. Lesson learned - be sure to ask for a higher floor.
During both stays we ate breakfast and dinner in the ground level restaurant. All of them were buffet style with plentiful food and choices. The beverages were hit or miss as the coffee was excellent but the fountain drinks were awful. There are other restaurants in the hotel.
Apart from the effort it took to get an extra blanket on the first night, staff were helpful and courteous. The room cards were also hit or miss for getting them to work in the elevators or room locks. Most of the time they worked eventually.
We also checked out but did not use the indoor pool. Nor did we explore the city around the hotel as we arrived after dark and were away early in the mornings. The guide books say the area is sketchy but it looks okay.

Room tip: Be sure to ask for if not demand a renovated room.

This hotel is a 3.5 star at best. When looking for hotels we specifically filtered for those with free airport transportation which was one of the reasons we chose this hotel. The hotel description listed airport shuttle was available 24hrs a day upon request. Only after booking did our receipt indicate in fine print that this may be at an additional cost. When we arrived we were informed the shuttle had to be booked in advance and at a cost of $30 each way. Best to take an Uber from the airport to San Jose which is ~$10 USD.

Upon arrival at the hotel, we were given an “executive room.” The bathroom was dirty, smelled of stale water, the A/C was not working and the toilet was clogged. The A/C ended up getting fixed, but even after asking someone to fix the toilet we were told to just keep holding down the toilet lever. When we asked to switch rooms we were told there were no others available. The battery on the hotel safe was also low. When we asked hotel staff to change the safe battery they ended up breaking the safe.

Only positive thing about the hotel was the daily breakfast offered on the 17th floor.

Rush hour traffic is quite heavy in San Jose which added significantly to the travel time in and out of the city for any tours.

I stayed there for the last few days that me and friends been in costarica I do work for ihg and I booked under employee rate which means that all over the world we do get employee discount.
When I asked reception this girl with curly hair and glasses she said that they don't do it there..I asked twice and she kept saying that they 're not doing employee disc.
So I presume that you should train better your staff and explained to them how the things are working with ihg.
I didn't really enjoy my last days in this holiday inn,breakfast not great as well.
