We asked our hotel for a restaurant serving seafood or fish. They recommended Sofia. We like Turkish food and it was only two blocks away. Nicely designed interior, professional wait staff. Good menu of Mediterranean cuisines, Turkish, Italian and Greek. We had good but simple food for two weeks in Costa Rica. Sofia was more sophisticated, a pleasant change. We started with a shared appetizer plate which included ten different Turkish treats. (Meze) I ordered a plate of freshly grilled sardines. Perfect. My wife had a small Greek seafood stew which was very good with the freshly baked Turkish flat bread. We finished with grouper kebab and a spectacular chopped salad with tomatoes, cucumber, sweet onion, mint, walnuts and the like. Good wine list, much better than most other restaurants. The chef came out and we had a ten minute enthusiastic discussion about the menu, how to make the best bread, and future food happenings. He has a Greek and Italian friends who contributed their best dishes to the menu. I wanted to start eating all over again. Really excellent food, and a comfortable place to dine. The prices were moderate compared to similar quality restaurants in the U.S. I recommend calling ahead for reservations because sometimes on weekends they have mini food festivals to celebrate a particular food or cuisine. We recommend it highly.

Great Mediterranean food and excellent service by bilingual servers. It is in a delightful setting on a small back street in San Jose. It is a bit pricey, however.
