“Rafting excellence”
Reviewed March 15, 2014

We recently did a two day trip on Pucaure river and had a an amazing trip. Water levels were quite low, so we didn't go very fast but we all had a good time. The company lodge is beautifully located by the river and our rooms looked out over the rapids. Our guides Alberth and Ricardo were excellent; they kept us informed and entertained. We also enjoyed some nice walks and the zip lining.
The guides did the catering as well and produced some great meals.

“Rafting Heaven”
Reviewed March 3, 2014

We went to Costa Rica to travel, explore, enjoy and we did all of this on our two day trip with Rios. You can't beat the rivers in Costa Rica, everything in this country is beautiful.
Gorge was the best guide, he was super knowledgeable about the river and everything surrounding us on our Pacuare trip. The rafting was a blast, such incredible water and scenery all the way and then there was the lodge in the middle of the forest which was completely amazing. Everything about this trip was more than expected, the guides and the company made sure the trip was more than enjoyable, Rios really has amazing people working for them, it was one of the best parts of our three weeks. You MUST go rafting in Costa Rica, it was the best.

“You gotta do this!!”
Reviewed February 28, 2014 via mobile

This trip was unbelievable! Firstly, the river is the most beautiful one I have ever seen. The water was glamorous, the trees and rocks against the water, just amazing! Our guide Otto, was great! He taught us how to maneuver so well that not one of us in the boat fell out! Kudos!! Rafting the white water was just so thrilling! We had a ball. This was definitely one of the highlights of our stay in Costa Rica!

“1-Day Pacuare River Rafting”
Reviewed February 27, 2014

Our guide for the 1-day Pacuare was Kevin Thompson - and he was excellent, fun, and definitely knew his stuff on the river. The actual river was gorgeous - especially the narrows where we were able to jump out and swim in the (briefly) placid waters. The only thing that kept it from being a 5-star was the relatively calm waters (for a white-water trip) - but everything else was top notch! We'll be back in the high season, someday, Kevin - or see you on the Kaweah! :)

Dear Snoobug, Thanks for joining our day trip to the Pacuare river and taking your valuable time to write your recommendation. Unlike most destinations and rivers the Pacuare we can paddle the Pacuare year-round, taking into account some months have higher water levels. As you mentioned this is a gorgeous and top notch river, the important thing is that you spent a magical day out of your everyday routine.

“Do not pass this up. Seriously. You'll miss something magical”
Reviewed February 25, 2014

A friend told us about this place AFTER we had booked our whole trip. We went out on a limb and rearranged everything to fit this in and the only regret we have is that we only did the one night trip. We are already trying to plan our next trip. Otto was our guide and we were very lucky because he was awesome! Speaks great English and enthusiastically pointed out things to our group such as birds, trees, and the way the river changed it's path after the last major flood. We were first time rafters and he had us working harmoniously!

We were a little confused about how to book the trip and what everything meant. We kind of thought that the more days we booked, the more rafting we did. Actually, the rafting time is the same, it is the nights spent at the lodge that varies. The lodge was beautiful! The rooms weren't fancy, but we weren't there for the room. Everything is open air with screens on the windows which was great because the temperature was in the low 70's at night. You fall asleep to the sound of the river rushing and other various sounds of the rainforest. There are comfy hammocks everywhere which are perfect for sleeping in, too! The one thing to be aware of is that most rooms are very close to one another so romance should be kept to a minimum volume. :) Also, the hot water is hit or miss and most people just skipped the morning shower. That was remedied by jumping into the pristine river! There is a small team of people there to cook food and operate a small alcohol "window". Beer, wine, and liquor all readily available for a small price. The food was all very good and there was plenty of it there. We met some really great people on our trip and we really enjoyed sitting on the big, open deck sharing stories of past adventures and whatnot.

We only stayed one night and wish, very much, that we had stayed 3. There are hiking trails and waterfalls all around the lodge and we didn't get to explore them with just one night. The ONLY complaint that I have is that there was a huge group of high school kids there and they took over the whole property while we were there. They were nice kids, but they overtook the whole place and I feel like we lost out a little. Apparently, groups like that are fairly common, so I would recommend asking about it when you book your trip and avoid it, if possible. They certainly did not compromise the quality of our time, just got in the way a bit.

The river itself is picturesque and is exactly what comes to mind when envisioning a dense, lush, tropical rainforest. Several times during the rafting, our guide gave us the ok to jump out of the raft and go for a swim. The water is unexpectedly cool and very refreshing. Perfection!

We are so thankful that our friend told us about Rios Tropicales and the Pacuare River. Our whole Costa Rica experience was fantastic, but this was, by far, the best part!
