“Great whitewater rafting through the jungles”
Reviewed July 31, 2012

Been rafting twice with this outfit - once with a girlfriend, and once solo. My girlfriend had never done whitewater before, but she had no problem at all and had a blast. They pick you up from your hotel and drive to the site. You're provided breakfast to give you energy for the adventure. The river run goes through mostly class III/IV rapids surrounded by jungles, and the scenery was just fantastic. The guides are professional and very friendly. And yes, they do speak English. Highly recommended, even for first timers.

“Penas Blanca's Twilight Float & Isla Damas Sea Kayaking”
Reviewed July 30, 2012

We recently did both of these trips with Rios Tropicales & highly recommend them. The website explained the trips well, the reservations folks quickly answered my emailed questions, & the reservation process was easy. The drivers arrived 5 minutes early each time & returned us to our hotels a bit earlier than promised.

The twilight float was a relaxing 2 hours to commune with nature. Our guide, Moises, enthusiastically shared his knowledge of nature & his love of his country with us. We didn't see a lot of animals that night, but we learned a lot about Costa Rica & it's wildlife. The light meal was delicious CR fare.

The kayak trip through the mangroves was so unique. Our group included a 10-year old & a couple of weaklings, but this trip was still doable by pairing them up with a guide or stronger paddler. Our guides, Rambo Tico & Mechis (?) were great fun & spotted lots of wildlife. We were lucky to see 2 sloths & 2 troops of monkeys as well as assorted birds. We did this trip on the 8th day of a trip packed with exciting activities & tours, so I thought we were past being impressed. Even so, we loved this tour. The breakfast was tasty & filling.

Dear Lorraine H, thanks for joining our twilight nature float & mangrove kayaking trips. Most people think of nature trips by hiking, but paddling through these natural corridors gives you a better opportunity to creep up to the wildlife. Take care and pura vida,

“Rafting the Pacuare river in Costa Rica”
Reviewed July 29, 2012

Can't say enough good things about this company. Rios Tropicales runs a very good operation. I was in San Jose in early July, 2012. They picked me up at the hotel in San Jose right on time with very professional staff and equipment. We drove to their facility near the river for a great buffett breakfast then we were off to the river and hooked up with a river guide. 3 to 3.5 hours on the river was a blast and beautiful. Great guide. They have staff on the sides of the river taking photos of every raft along the way. We ended the rafting and then they took us back to their very nice facility for a buffett lunch and to watch the photos on flat screen TV's while we ate. Transported back to the hotel on time. Never a glitch in my trip. From start to finish it was well organized and professonal, and fun. For $100 it was my best bargain of the trip. Give them a shot, they have earned their reputation. I should have done this white water trip a long time ago, since this was my 10th time in Costa Rica. I don't know why I waited so long.

“Great fun with Rios Tropicales”
Reviewed July 27, 2012

We had a great day with Rios Tropicales. They picked us up on time and were very friendly! Mae was our guide and host. One member of the other party that rafted with us really wanted to see a sloth. He spent a lot of time looking in the trees while we drove along. He found several but she wasn't able to see them (they are hard to spot!).. He even took us off the main river up a little inlet to see if he could spot one. Finally at the end of the day on the way back, he found one she could see. She was very happy, and we were impressed with his persistence. Our driver spotted a group of monkeys along the way, and we pulled over and looked at them.
The rafting trip was unbelievable fun! They gave us lots of instructions on land and then put us through the paces when we first entered the water. Our guide, Mae, showed us lots of birds and butterflies. They let us out to play in the river at several different points. Our trip was a class II-III. It was a great ride and when we come back we plan to do a class IV!
Lunch was the only thing that was less than great. The chicken was way overcooked and the beans were undercooked. It was great that lunch was included and the snack was delicious-watermelon and pineapple. Overall the trip was great!!

Dear Brandy J, Thanks for all the details from your review. As you mention it's not only the river trip that counts. We are making a note about the lunch! We'll be waiting for you to run the Pacuare Class III-IV river trip.

Pura Vida,

“What a wild ride on the Pacuare!”
Reviewed July 24, 2012

This was the first stop on our family adventure tour of Costa Rica. Harrowing 2-3 hr. drive from San Jose to Turrialba but worth every near-death collision. The Pacuare River was low but still a terrific and challenging ride. It is rated the #5 river in the world and we wish we had hit it at a higher water level. Our guide, Jimmy, was a blast and spoke excellent English. He deftly navigated the rapids, directed our every move and threw in some 360's, dunkings and reverse rapids. The put-in is remote with no facilities, and no drinks are provided. The end is a feast with full facilities, souvenir shop, bar and slide show. Bring extra cash for the photo CD. Professional shots that you will want to have. Bring a change of clothes, towel, water and sunscreen. Need cash for photos, tip and souvenirs. This is a great ride!
