I really enjoyed my visit to this little restaurant yesterday. The neighborhood where the restaurant is located is in one of the fashionable districts in San José, a place with old, nice houses and many restaurants, bistros, bars and coffee shops.
La Uvita Perdida is VERY cozy and you feel welcome right in the moment you step into the place. The owner (don Luis) and his daughters will greet you personally.
The menu is not what you usually find in a restaurant. Basically, you have to choose between 3 or 4 appetizer options and 4 entree options. The entrees are "tablas" with different Mediterranean dishes that include salad and wine. You can buy half a "tabla" or a full "tabla". The prices are reasonable and the food is delicious and well prepared. I would suggest the owners to work a little more in the presentation of the "tabla", but in terms of flavor you will not be disappointed...not at al!
In terms of wine availability, the options are limited: Two types of red wine and one white wine. Quite frankly, I was expecting more wine options because the place describes itself as a "wine cantina". I ordered half a bottle of Carmenére and half a bottle of Chardonnay and both wines were served at the right temperature. They were good wines...not great wines, but good wines. The prices were very reasonable.
If you plan to visit this place on Friday make sure to make a reservation. The restaurant has live music every week and those days you can expect the place to be packed. In general, I can say that I fell in love with this place. I will come back often.
