This was another of the Escazu hotels I stayed at during the time my husband was in the hospital. I guess I will start with saying that everything is relative.
I really liked the place. The grounds are beautiful and lush. My room was very spacious, super clean and bright with good lighting. The room, though simple was very tasteful. The breakfast/common area had lots of nice wood It was open and airy. The included breakfast was wonderful - freshly cooked for you. You could choose between pancakes or a Costa Rican breakfast. In all cases fresh fruit, toast, coffee and cereal if you wanted it were available with the main hot meal.
When I first arrived, I wasn't sure about the front desk staff. But once I settled in, everyone - especially Alan proved to be friendly and helpful.
After the previous place I stayed at, which was charging $5.00 to wash a T shirt, I was happy to find that I could have my laundry done at a reasonable price - 50 cents or less per item.
There are some drawbacks to the hotel which might be a problem for some people. There are no phones in the rooms. Since I wasn't promised one here - it was OK.
Also the location can present problems. Although it is relatively close to the centre of Escazu, it is sort of up a hill and out of the way. Not all cab drivers seem to know where it is and even if you explain it, some seem to wander around before they find it. That can be frustrating especially if you are coming back at night.
To me the place was very pleasant and had a lot of character and charm. There was everything I needed - wireless internet, cable TV, a small pool and a jacuzzi (neither of which I had a chance to use)
In my review I am taking into account the low price and the fact that Costa Verde does not promise things that it can't or doesn't deliver. Costa Verde Inn to me was a great value. Its a nice cozy B and B,, not a full service hotel. So if that is the kind of place you are looking for and if you want to stay close to San Jose but away from the noise and the traffic and congestion of the city, Costa Verde Inn might be a good option.
