The hotel was beautiful (especially the view). The service was fantastic. The beds were amazing! The food was great as well (but a very small continental breakfast). The only down side is that it is out of the way (but that's how you get a great view!).

We received a very warm welcome from this hotel the minute we walked through the doors into reception. The interior décor was extremely stylish with quirky furnishings at every turn. We loved the pool area bursting with colour and the views from our room, both at sunrise and sunset, were gorgeous. You could see San Jose spread out before you and the mountains looming in the distance. The bedroom was very comfortable with simple but smart furniture, good mood lighting and a wonderful big shower. The well-stocked mini bar was a bonus! We only ate dinner in the restaurant once but the food was beautifully presented and delicious. Only note of discontent was the breakfast which was minimalist! Very small pieces of toast (we had to ask for more), a few bits of fruit, coffee and juice. Given how early we were setting out, we were concerned that this wouldn't sustain us! But overall we loved our brief two-night stay here and would heartily recommend it.

We stayed here for just 2 nights and loved the staff who were very friendly and helpful and the rooms had great views. There is a great little restaurant down the road la cebolla verde which had equally nice staff and good food.

I spend a night or two in San Jose every month and have come to depend on the Alta to meet all my needs. While many reviews focus on the architecture of a hotel, my main interest is on staffing. The Alta has the most professional staff of any hotel I know in this part of the world. Yes, the property is very charming and the views from (I believe) all the rooms of the city are smashing. But the care and attention of the staff make the Alta a stand-out.

The Alta is own by Alex Khajavi, founder and CEO of NatureAir. This is a sophisticated, low-key lodging five minutes from the Multiplaza, CIMA, Imax theater and other convenient stops. It's rates are competitive and amenities are all that you'd ever need.

Room Tip: The hotel is quiet. I've stayed in rooms with terraces and terrific views on the third, fourth a...

We stayed on our last night in Costa Rica before flying home. When we arrived we were upgraded to a suite which was massive - lounge area, bedroom, washroom, shower room, toilet and bidet room, walk in wardrobe and two lovely balconies with stunning views over the city.
The menus for lunch and dinner were very good and the food we had was excellent, well presented and very tasty. I have read previous comments about the poor breakfasts we didn't take breakfast (we left the hotel at 02:30) so cannot pass judgement.
The outside terraces and pool looked stunning, a great place to unwind.
We would definitely use this hotel again as a stopover

We stayed three nights at the Alta. . First night, last night and once in between the trip. It is a lovely small hotel with a great restaurant, a quiet pool area and views over San Jose.
We were traveling with a 14 and 12 year old and they enjoyed it. The staff were very accommodating and it was always nice to return.
Perfect place for couples as well.

Room Tip: All rooms very good

Hotel has charming European style. Our room was spacious. clean and had a full balcony with table and chairs. The room had a great view of the city. Staff were excellent. Our vehicle was parked in the hotel lot. The staff informed us that we had a flat tire and they would take care of it. We assumed they would call a company to fix it however one of the maintenance workers repaired the tire. They would not let us pay so we left them a large tip. What great people!
We had an excellent dinner at the restaurant. The pool and area were magnificent. We would highly recommend this hotel.
