We had a great time at this villa Roca (I think owned by swiss or german people). The villa itself was quiet, the setting with the pool is out of this world and the crowd is coming from Europe, Canada and America. We had a great relaxing time for 3 nights. In low season, it might be quiet and nothing much around so go to other regions for a few days too like Puerto Viejo and discover other part of the country.
In Manueal Antonio, we compared with another gay resort and this one is nothing compared to the other one. There is also a beautiful independant coffeshop in a great setting, it felt good to see something else than those numerous boring Starbucks.
Enjoy, don`t even think about somewehere else in Manuel Antonio.
Merci !

We had an amazing stay at Villa Roca this past November during the Thanksgiving break.

We ended up in Rm. 12, which is one of the largest and most expensive rooms.

Rm. 12 was very nice with a large balcony and a view to the sea and islands. There is a little kitchen area that is about the same size as the bedroom area, separated by a sliding glass door. We kept the door open most of the time since it makes the room feel bigger.

The accomodations are nice and clean but not luxurious by most American standards. They are about what we expected based on the photos of the website and certainly reasonable considering the price. The bed wasn't as comforatable as in luxury hotels, but it was perfectly fine. The air conditioning and fan were a plus. Television was rarely used, but also a plus. Mini bar was well stocked. Housekeeping was great and came up with cute variations of our towel arrangements every day. The entire Staff was very friendly and helpful. They arranged all our excursions and did an exeptional job. They gave us the best recommendations and we had the best time as a result. We had an amazing tour of the Manual Antonio park with a guide named Gama. He was amazing at finding every animal in the park. He has eyes like a hawk (and arms like tree trunks). He was so friendly and funny and cute. We also did the gay sunset cruise. I loved this so much, it was just beautiful. I snorkelled around some rocks toward the end of the cruise and fed the fishes some crackers they gave us on the boat. It was amazing, they were in a feeding frenzy, so many big colorful fish swimming all around us. The water visibility isn't as good as in the Carribean, but it was good enough. We also did the Canopy safari tour and this was the highlight of our trip. Take the extra time and do the 5 hour zip line tour. It is only a 1.5 hour drive each way and well worth it! We went on the gay tour and had a blast. Just amazing. The gay tours are really a lot of fun and a great way to meet others.

There are many many steps at the Villa Roca, especially to and from the jacuzzi. The jacuzzi isn't very hot at night, it is hotter during the day since it is solar heated. By about 10 or 11pm it is more of a tepid bath. It's still fun and warmer than the pool, but it isn't a "hot tub". The nature around the jacuzzi tub is incredible. You feel like you are in the Jungle.

The pool is one of the best features of this resort. It is as beautiful as it looks on the website. Just amazing. Breakfast by the pool is also nice. If you want any eggs you just have to let the staff know what you want (order by number). The coffee in the hotel is just ok, so after a few days we decided to check out Cafe Milagro down the street. We were told it has the best coffee and breakfast, and sure enough it did. We went back twice. I recommend trying it out, for a change of pace if nothing more.

The hotel location is also great since it is right near the only gay club/bar in town called "Tutu's" which is just above the Gato Negro restaurant. Tutus is a lot of fun, so long as it isn't raining.

Taxis are cheap (only $4 or $5 for most short trips) and more reliable than buses. I don't recommend taking the buses. They are crowded and slow. You waste time waiting for them and only save a few bucks. It's just not worth it for short trips.

Overall, Villa Roca has among the best views and the best pool of any resort in Manuel Antonio. The staff is very friendly and they organize many gay parties and events. While it can be a bit "cruisy" at times, it is what you make of it. If you want it to be a romantic getaway it can be that, and if you want it to be a playground, it can be that too. I definitely recommend it, but keep in mind that some rooms and some views are better than others, so be sure to know what you are getting beforehand.

Villa Roca is a wonderful collection of cottages that cascade down the side of the mountain in lush Manual Antonio (Quepos), Costa Rica. This gay/straight friendly establishment is tops in the area for friendly service, cleanliness, and views.

The hot tub area at the bottom of their hill is set in a serene jungle area; a great place to spend a quiet day reading, writing or napping.

The pool and hot tub areas are clothing optional. (Clothing required during breakfast.)

Complimentary breakfasts are served daily in the pool-patio area which turns into a full service bar in the afternoons between 4 & 6 in time for sunsets. Michael the bartender has smiles for everyone.

The two Carlos that work the reception area are always ready to provide information on tours available for guests, and will book reservations for you. They will also reconfirm your flights and arrange for a shuttle to the airport (Quepos). Problems are quickly remedied with a friendly, can-do attitude.

The gardens are beautifully kept and tropical flowers abound.

Items in the mini-bar in your room is reasonably priced.

I spent two and a half weeks here during the Christmas-New Year holidays. I never heard any customers complain.

We had a wonderful time at Villa Roca! The place was very well maintained, rooms were nice and clean, pool was also clean, and people were very friendly and helpful. The view was fantastic! The grounds were lush and beautiful. The hot tub was quite warm while we were there (perhaps they improved the temperature?)

Most restaurants and attractions were within walking distance and/or bus distance so a car is not really necessary in the area. Just a word of caution - we hardly ever saw a sidewalk and the road can be a tad hilly depending on where you're going.

Only suggestion for improvement here (and this applies to all the hotels in this area, not just Villa Roca): to stop feeding the monkeys. A local we spoke to advised us that the monkeys are inbreeding and not as social with other monkeys as they've become more reliant on food from humans. In fact, one morning the monkeys became slightly aggressive when food was not left out for them. Again - this is not just Villa Roca, it is a lot of the hotels in the area.

All things considered - I would stay here again.

Fantastic location with an incredible view. The infinity pool looks over to the ocean and the islands. The staff was very pleasant and eager to help with anything. The staff also was very knowledgeable and good about making sure we were aware of pickup times for various tour groups. They really helped us out.

On the down side, the bed pillows were terrible and the only real complaint around the pool discussion. Well the jacuzzi is far away down the hill and not heated but that was never a problem for us anyhow.

The hotel is nicely situated between the National Park and the Quepos town. Taxis and buses were easy to catch and cheap in either direction.

Bring small US currency for short trips. No real need to change money. Give yourself extra travel time getting back to San Jose airport for connections out of town. We heard of many problems.

Enjoy. I would stay there again and we met several repeat visitors.

Thank you very much for the commentaries. We liked to know that our guests enjoy their vacations in our resort. Unfortunately, there was a problem with our pillows. With this we want to apologize because thie was completely right.
We had bought new pillows of first quality for all the rooms; we assure all the possible comfort.
About the situation with the Jacuzzi, we have fixed the solar panel and we are expecting the water temperature will be right for the enjoyment.

Hotel Villa Roca is an incredible all gay male resort and I would highly recommend staying there. The employees were very helpful, the views from the room (stayed in Room 3) and the pool was breath taking. There are cute places to eat within walking distance. Walking to the beach is also an option. The complementary breakfast is pretty good. The pool is clothing optional after 10 AM. All the guests there were really open and friendly. My favorite memory, waking up to the sound of monkeys in the nearby trees!! Being 24 years old, the rest of the guests were older than me, I’d say average age was 30 years plus. I’d definitely return back to Hotel Villa Roca.

If you're looking for a gay hotel in Manuuel Antonio, this is the one to choose. The views are spectacular, the location is great, and the pool and new hot tub are heaven. The rooms are very minimal, but very clean. We stayed in room 12, which is the most expensive one. This was odd, because the room and balcony face a two-story laundry and service building not 10 feet away, which partially blocks the view. Begining at 8AM the housekeepers jangle huge key rings as they unlock the metal doors to access linens and do laundry. This noise goes on all day until 6pm. And there is no privacy. Room 11 is even worse because it is on the first floor. Many of the smaller, less expensive rooms have much better views and are very private. The service staff, who were for the most part very helpful and friendly, looked at us blankly when we complained about this situation.

Thank you for staying with us and for your comments.
It is true there is a laundry room close to rooms # 11 and # 12. But this is not a fact because those rooms are the favorite apartments for many of our guest and specially room # 12 with one of the best ocean view of this zone.
We apologize for the noise every morning. Therefore we have made a lot of changes with the intension to not disturb anyone in our hotel.
We are looking forward to seeing you soon again in our accommodations.
