Great staff, great environment, and an overall amazing place to stay!! Everyone there is extremely helpful and genuinely cares about making sure you are completely happy during your time there. Yara, the housekeeper, takes great pride in making sure the entire place is spotless and clean every day, along with cooking some amazing communal breakfasts! We loved the early morning yoga on the roof as well- what a great way to start your morning!! The pool, another great amentity, is consistently clean, the showers are always hot, and the fact that they offer bikes to rent to get to town makes this place truly outstanding. We were treated like family the entire time, and I would recommend this place to absolutely anyone travelling and looking for a great, friendly place to stay in Quepos/Manuel Antonio!!

Would I stay here again? Yes. Absolutely. The staff is ridiculously helpful and nice to the point I kept expecting them to hand me literature about joining their cult. That was a joke.

The location has advantages and disadvantages. Yes it is on the north side of town and away from everything, but it is quiet and only a ten minute walk into town. There isn't much around the property for now which is nice because you have a wonderful view of the nearby villas and mountains in the distance.

It is a very laid back atmosphere and while impromptu get-togethers can break out on the balcony in the evening, everyone is very respectful about noise. While there isn't AC in the rooms, they all have large ceiling fans and our room (Room #4) had a private bathroom so we had a window on either side of our room which allowed for great air circulation. Even though it was really hot and humid during the day we slept comfortably at night. They have the most comfortable mattresses we've slept on in any of the hostels we've stayed at in Costa Rica to this point.

The kitchen is well equipped for cooking your own meals which we did a lot. The have a well stocked snack and beverage area with very reasonable prices. The maid was spot on and kept the place very clean and tidied our room every day. Having the pool was great because it was easy to take a quick dip and cool off. For access to the Manuel Antonio beaches you can walk to the central bus station and for 300 Colones (60 US cents) you can hop one of the many buses out to the beaches. We never felt unsafe walking through Quepos. You are more likely to encounter a dog, chicken or cow than anything else.

If you are on a budget and are content cooking for yourself you could easily have a great time in Quepos for under $70 US a day for a couple.

If you are young or young at heart and are looking for a relaxed atmosphere in which to hang out I would highly recommend Villas Jaquelina.

Room Tip: The rooms with shared bathrooms seemed to only have one window. If you can afford the upgrade to a r...

When my friend and I arrived at the Villas Jacquelina, we were greeted with smiles and fresh coconut juice--which were delicious. Not only that, the staff actually cracked the coconuts for us to eat the meat (yummy)!

The atmosphere there was very welcoming--everything was clean and we had everything we needed. I mainly cared about the wifi and the clean living quarter and they did delivered.

Steve, the owner, was the most amiable person ever! He helped us plan our adventures around the area and offered to show us around town.

If I ever go back to Manuel Antonio, I would definitely stop by Villas Jacquelina. Thank you Steve and your staff for an awesome experience!

Our stay in Villas Jacquelina was everything we could have hoped for - Steve and his wife were friendly and welcoming, his staff were helpful and willing,,,the coffee was great and the breakfast was wonderful The room we had was clean and airy and the bathroom was great as well. The terrace was lovely and relaxing. But I think what made the huge difference was the warm personal touch that Steve brought - he was matter of fact about what was available on site and what was not - so.".. no soap or shampoo or iron but hey, you did not know so here I can give you what you need." But the rationale was what mattered - he was living up to his name of being eco-friendly. Steve had great recommendations for meals and for our foodie family this was huge. Not only recommend but called in and made reservations. These little things plus making us a speedy breakfast on the go when we messed up our pick -up times for rafting was also very considerate. So all in all, would we recommend this place - ABSOLUTELY! But make sure you spend some time gettting to know Steve and his lovely wife - they are interseting people and are also interested in you...which makes for great conversations memories.

We stayed for four days at Villas Jacquelina. It turned out to be a nice, relaxing stay. Great coffee, clean rooms and hot water shower. Amazing sun rise can be viewed from the roof terrace lying in a hammock, sipping coconut water. Enjoyed the small pool for cooling off. Steve, Esteban and Yara we thank you for making us feel at home.

We were very disappointed by this hostel, given the other excellent reviews on this site. On a positive note, it is true that the owners are extremely friendly and the communal areas are clean and well appointed. We had struggled to find a room in Quepos, and had to book one of the cheaper rooms at the hostel, which was a private double, but with no AC and a shared bathroom (this we knew in advance, but at $60 per night this represents by far the worst value accommodation for our whole trip). The room was tiny, with very basic, homemade wooden furnishings and was very muggy. There were a lots of insects both in the room and in the hall and bathroom, and no mosquito net or means to hang one (we were both bitten). The shared bathroom was acceptable, but smelled of drains.

The location is 'ok'. It is on a quiet road outside Quepos (a 10-15 min walk or a $3 taxi ride away at night when we didn't feel safe to walk). To visit the main attraction of the area, Manuel Antonio, you have to take another 20 minute bus.

Given the other reviews, we can only conclude that the other rooms in the hostel are better, but we would advise against choosing the budget room if you absolutely want to stay here. Given the choice again, we would chose somewhere in Manuel Antonio.

Hello James,
Thank you for your review James. I’m happy to hear you found our staff extremely friendly and that our communal areas were clean and well appointed. However, I am certainly disappointed by the lack of cleanliness you experienced in your room. We pride ourselves on our cleanliness, as I suspect you saw throughout the rest of the property. Your experience falls way below our standards. Please reach out to me personally at info@villasjacquelina.com with your check in date and full name. With this information I can investigate what fell through in the cleaning process of your room & hallway and ensure it won’t happen again. Also, before booking your next stay, contact me personally so we can go above and beyond your expectations!

The warm welcome and the relaxing atmosphere at Villas Jacquelina were exactly what I needed. The owner Steve is extremely friendly and helpful, and interesting to talk to. The terraces have beautiful views and are nice places to hang out and meet other guests. The place was clean and tidy, and the breakfasts were very good, with fresh fruits, omelets and delicious coffee pancakes (yes, coffee pancakes :-)). It's a bit out of town, but that is also what makes it such a beautiful place. Walking into town takes only a few minutes and Steve also offers a lot of rides in and out of town. I had a great stay here!
